Meet Danial Owens of Purepremium

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danial Owens.

Danial, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Purepremium started as an idea way back around 2015 when I was a Jr in high school, I always loved getting fresh for school, the process of picking out what I wanted to wear the next day. From brands like cdg, Margiela, Supreme, Stussy, to faded glory from Walmart. just various brands. The art styles and graphics and the creative process of making and designing clothing became my biggest passion. I have an art history I loved art from drawing, painting and other crafts related to art. I was big on basketball and skateboarding and still slightly am. I skated locally in Atlanta as a kid to a lot of my teenage years. and being in that community and the lifestyle of the skate culture has always been one of the biggest influences in my style and inspiration today. I played basketball since a kid also and began playing organized when I was younger all the way to high school. During my basketball years, I always managed to still be creative and have a thing for clothing and fashion. I would buy re-sale clothes and wear and flip clothes all the time. I had a job working with my dad and working a job in 2015 -2016. id buy clothes because that’s what made me feel like the best me was looking good.

The drawing was always the design part of me. I would always tell my family I wanted to be an architect, which I didn’t really know exactly what that was, I knew it was drawing buildings and what not and I was good at it. Soon that grew the passion of graphic design around 2017, I began making purepremium designs and designing my own artwork through drawings and photoshop. I learned everything I know from myself and YouTube. Also, a great help to my starting process is a designer by the name of @fathernico who blessed me with a lot of knowledge of photoshop and on the career path and industry of being a graphic designer. I birthed purepremium on April 22nd in 2017 I released my first items featuring a few shirts I had designed. Ever since then, my passion for streetwear and fashion has grown. I have pages of ideas and concepts id liked to share to the world. and all the way till now 2020 I’m still pursuing making this brand something for everyone to enjoy, from making clothes to other items that represent purepremium lifestyle.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting this brand has not been the easiest thing but has always been worth my time. This is something financially you have to be willing to invest in. Making money to start my first few collections was kinda a struggle because of other bills I had to attend to monthly. I had computer problems often. During my first three years of purepremium and being a designer my computer was terrible, it would take days to do graphics and anything else. I pushed through a few years with that computer because I couldn’t afford the top of the line MacBook at the time. The MacBook is the best for design and every designer who didn’t have one most likely wanted one. I was blessed with one as a gift. Before that, I had a life-threatening heart attack playing basketball with a few friends one day. From hospital bills to other bills that were accumulating lots of money was being used. During those times when I was hurt and in the process of needing a new computer, it was really a hard time to stay motivated for my brand and to keep pushing it. I knew if I could see my vision and where I wanted to take this, then that vision is tangible. I’ve never given up on the brand and I never will that’s the rule. I’ve said to me if you give up, then it was never your purpose.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Purepremium – what should we know?
Purepremium is my clothing brand established in 2017. The pure premium name was created over days and days of thinking of a name. The meaning is representing “for your good” and an organic style of streetwear that speaks overall quality and style. Having a variety of items, colors and styles into one item or a collection set us apart and what i feel is important when releasing clothes to the world, making almost something for any and everyone to wear.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion, willpower, patience, drive, optimism, self-confidence, communication and self-reliance.
