Meet David Alexander of DJ Alexander Entertainment in Forsyth County

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Alexander.

David, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was always a music enthusiast and found my self listening a a wide variety of different genres. During the 1980’s, I got into radio where I was a disc jockey in the Atlanta radio market. This is where my love for entertaining people came into play. Being on the radio, led to being a mobile DJ and performing at private events.

Today, I am strictly a mobile DJ and Master of Ceremonies. Our primary focus are weddings and corporate events. For either to be successful you need a well trained Master of Ceremonies. There is much more to an event that just playing music. The Master of Ceremonies (MC) keeps the guests informed to what is happening, keeps the event running smoothly and on time, programs the music and directs the event.

You are just not born with this ability. It takes training to be a great Master of Ceremonies. I am proud to say that I have trained under some of the best in the country. Mark Ferrell, Peter Merry and Randy Bartlett to name a few. Being under their guidance has helped me be the true entertainer I am today. Being a well trained and versed Master of Ceremonies is one of the reasons we are different from other DJs. Without the proper training DJs can sound repetitive and cheesy. Nobody wants cheesy entertainment at their wedding or event.

Our goal is to keep everyone entertained, engaged and dancing. We achieve this through our planning and getting to know the couple and their guests. We even tell the couple’s “Love Story” during the evening. Our introductions of the wedding party is much more than just saying their names. We actually tell a bio of each member during the introduction… this helps the guests connect to who they are and why they were chosen to be in the wedding party.

We take planning each event seriously. No two events are the same, each one is different, because every couple is different. We customize the event to fit who they are and their vision. Typically, I spend 25 – 30 hours on each wedding before the day of the event. I want their guests coming up to the couple at the end of the evening and while giving them a hog say, “This was the best wedding reception ever!”

In addition to our DJ and Master of Ceremonies services, we also offer: photo booths, uplighting and projected monograms (gobos).

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The struggles for us was the beginning and all of the costs involved in the equipment and the music library. Being a music enthusiast, I already had a large library of music that I had collected through the years both on vinyl and CD. I still had to obtain more. The music will be the largest investment when getting started. I have music from the 1940’s through today. My music library is updated daily covering, pop, rock, country, jazz, R&B and much more.

We purchase the best brands and we did this from day 1. We wanted equipment from companies that we knew had a great reputation and are reliable. Everything we have from our controllers to our speakers are made by quality companies. However, we do bring back up equipment to every event… to this day, we have not had to use our backup equipment.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DJ Alexander Entertainment story. Tell us more about the business.
We focus on weddings and corporate events. We are different because of our Master of Ceremonies training. Being able to bring in a wedding party with customized bio for each member is one of our unique a different traits. The telling of the couple’s “Love Story” is also a unique item that we are proud and honored to do. Our couples love this.

Our DJ setup/booth blends in with the venue. We always maintain an elegant look that blends with the decor of the venue and the event. We make sure our setup is not an eyesore, but nice, organized and neat.

We travel to where we are needed. We go all over Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, the Carolina’s… we are even being flown in to perform at a wedding in Missouri.

I am an ordained minister… I did this in the off chance that the minister could not make it… this way, I could step in and still marry them on that day. It is more of a backup plan than anything else. However, some of our couples have asked me to marry them as well. Those were truly an honor.

We are also Certified Wedding Planner (CWP)… in the cases that a couple does not have a wedding planner, we can step in and help them on what to do and the vendors to use… even if they do already have one, it helps us communicate better with their planner to achieve a beautiful event.

We are also proud members of:
– American Disc Jockey Association
– United States Disc Jockey Association (We were selected as one of the top 100 founding members out of 1000 applicants across the country)
– Wedding Wire Couple’s Choice award Winner
– Best Of Forsyth – Best Entertainment Company 2017 and 2018
– Cumming-Forsyth Chamber of Commerce
– Georgia Bridal Association
– Optimist Club
– Founding Member of Lanier Bridal

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’ve been luck to have the support of my wife, Lisa Alexander, who is a huge part of this. You may not see her with a microphone in her hand, but she is always keeping everything in check while running a production no matter what type of event. I could not have done it without her support.

I have also been blessed to learn from some of the best DJs and MCs in the country. They have taken the time to teach me the right way of conducting events. I am blessed to have such good and talented friends.
