Today we’d like to introduce you to DeAmber Pleas.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in the beauty salon due to both my mother and grandmother being hairstylists. During my high school years, there was an incident where my mother took too long to do my hair. I decided to take matters into my own hands and began to do my hair. I got in the mirror, did my own micros, my own sew-in, and it came out cute! I went to school and I got so many compliments from all of my classmates and their moms that it led to me doing everyone else’s hair. As you can see, I’ve never stopped. In 2018, after many years of doing hair, I decided that I wanted to take my career to the next level. I uprooted everything and moved to Atlanta. I left years of clients and stability behind to create a fresh start in a brand new city. It has taken a lot of dedication, sacrifice, long days, long nights and prayers to get where I am today.
Has it been a smooth road?
The journey has been up and down. I have faced several challenges during my transition from stylist to business owner. Finding a balance between my personal life and running my salon has been one of my struggles. That is where the sacrifices have come into play. I have had to minimize Friday and Saturday night hangouts because I have to focus on my business. I have also sacrificed going on vacation and attending other social events. Being a business owner means being responsible for everything that involves the salon. Wearing the hat of both owner and stylist means that I not only have to be present, but also I have to be alert and operate in a professional manner at all times.
Starting over in a new city has had its challenges as well. I opened my business with only one client. The first 3 months was trial and error. I experimented with stylists, developed marketing, brainstormed branding, and focused on guest retention amongst other things. Around the third month is when I really started to see my vision for my salon come to life. Now, I have found my niche and my salon is thriving.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hair In Peace Beauty Salon – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am the owner of Hair In Peace Beauty Salon, which is located in Buckhead, Atlanta, one block away from Piedmont hospital. I started my business in September 2019 and it has grown tremendously. I offer a wide range of hair and beauty services. Some of these include natural hair services, braids, extensions, loc maintenance, and more. I also provide body waxing services and hair/makeup for special events or weddings. I strive to offer my clients a quality service in a very professional and peaceful environment. My number one goal is to care for my clients’ natural hair. All of my services include a shampoo and conditioning in an effort to promote healthy hair. Furthermore, all of the hair services offered have minimal tension to prevent breakage, ongoing hair loss, and discomfort following appointments.
I am most popular for my starter locs, loc extensions, and faux locs. All of these are all-inclusive services, meaning that my clients come in and I provide everything needed for their service.
What sets me apart is my high standard of professionalism and customer service. I not only keep a great line of communication with first-time clients, but I also keep an open line of communication with existing clients between their appointments. They are able to text me if they have questions, concerns, or quick updates. On top of that, I am also very punctual.
Most of my clients would say what they love most about coming to see me is that I create a very calm and serene environment. There is always great music playing, great conversation, and lots of laughter. I provide wine and snacks to my guests to make sure they are comfortable and relaxed while they get pampered.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I really despise the traffic in Atlanta, LOL. The heaviness of the traffic is very different from my hometown. What I like the most is the progression of black communities and black businesses in the city. It truly feels like young, Black entrepreneurs can make it here and to see such representation of the culture inspires me every day.
