Meet Devin Robinson of Beauty Supply Institute

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Robinson.

Devin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was convinced by a friend to open a salon. Once I did that, I had a poor shopping experience at a beauty supply store, so I opened one. After opening, I receive a significant number of requests from others wanting my help in opening a store for them too. I decided to launch an institute that would help people from start to finish in a more structured way.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been an interesting ride. Sometimes challenging. There are a lot of pitfalls and secrets in the industry. Convincing budding entrepreneurs that they really need training to run a boutique-sized business isn’t easy. So, the branding of the company has been the most difficult. But I am proud to now be running a business that is #1 in this space.

Please tell us about Beauty Supply Institute.
We help entrepreneurs opening beauty supply stores. We provide training classes, conferences, summits, study material, business plans and full consulting. Our consulting includes selecting locations, lease negotiations, store design, inventory ordering and much more.

This is our 10th year in business. Since we started, we have opened 94 stores worldwide.

We have been able to witness some store owners build wealth beyond $1 million. That is my proudest achievement.

What sets us apart is our experience and facility. We run a 5,000 square foot facility that actually consists of a full-scale beauty supply store, training classrooms and our corporate headquarters.

Student entrepreneurs in our program get to actually work in the store before graduating. This way we ensure they actually know how to execute the training we taught them.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Going boating with my dad in the Caribbean and farming in rural Maryland with my grandmother.
