Meet Domonique “Nikki” Madden of Memphis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Domonique “Nikki” Madden.

Domonique “Nikki”, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
NNC Creations was created 2 1/2 years ago during a store run to Michael’s. For years I struggled in discovering what I had a passion for. I took up multiple majors in college trying to search for the career that would make work feel like a hobby, however, I never felt complete, satisfied or truly fulfilled. I’ve always been creative and talented in different areas but never in my life imagined myself becoming an Artist and to be honest, before 2 years ago, I had never picked up a paint brush. On the day I went to Michael’s, I had just put in my notice at my current job. I had no idea what I was going to do next, I just knew it was time for a change, time for more. While at Michael’s, I felt the desire to create decorative letters, floral name boards, and floral backgrounds. I posted them, and started to get so many requests, forming NNC Creations. As time went on, I looked for more to offer clients, which eventually led me to discovering my love for abstract, glass, and resin art. As I created, I realized becoming an Artist was truly my passion. It took off in ways I had never imagined and I’m grateful to God for giving me NNC Creations. I have sold many pieces of artwork, as well as created pieces for a couple of celebrity clients, my most popular being my Glass Photo Pieces.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would love to be able to say that the road was smooth, however, being an artist is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done. When your job is to create something people want to have and to paint something your clients love with no guidance, only colors or a photo, the pressure is on! Every piece I feel inspired to create does not always sell like I desire. And not only that, I’ve experienced times of not getting a client order for a couple of months at a time and have even found myself struggling to create. When the pandemic hit, it caused me to have complications in getting materials. But out of everything I have experienced, I can honestly say I am living what feels like a dream with the overwhelming opened doors and opportunities that have come my way. I’m not sure I would appreciate NNC or even know how much NNC means to ME if it wasn’t for the struggles that revealed how serious and committed I was and am to my true Passion of turning someone’s Dream into an illustrated reality.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in creating customized abstract, resin, and glass art. I am most known for my Glass Photo Pieces and Glass Marble style pieces. You will not come across many artists that provide you the opportunity of making a cherished or favorite photo an extraordinary and extravagant work of art in the way I do. I am most proud of the opportunity I was given to create a custom piece for Dwight Howard and B Simone.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Study study study! Study different styles of art, study methods, learn about the proper supplies, the dos and don’ts. Practice your craft. Test your boundaries. Push your limits. Trust your inspiration. Feed your creativity daily. Never short yourself for appeasement, find your audience and give it all you got. But most importantly, never forget the WHY!
