Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Lozano.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my first camera when I was 13 – it was a film camera that my dad gave me. I transitioned to digital photography in high school and took some time off in college where I got a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Administration. After college, I began working for a wedding planning company and realized that my dream was to incorporate my love of weddings with my past love of photography, and start a photography business. I started small, taking family photos and portraits, and eventually was hired to shoot my first wedding. Now, 2 and a half years in, I’m shooting weddings regularly and am constantly looking to expand my business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been hard balancing a full time job, grad school, and running my business on the side. When inquiries slow down, it’s easy to get discouraged. Photography is such a seasonal business that it’s normal to have slower months in between the busy spring and fall wedding seasons. It also took a while to figure out what my style was, and to have my portfolio look consistent and uniquely my own.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Hannah Michelle Photography is primarily a wedding photography business, but I also do general portrait work. I service the metro Atlanta and surrounding areas, but travel across the Southeast as well.
I am most proud of how much my business has grown since I started it in the summer of 2015. Clients put a lot of faith in me when they hire me to photograph their weddings, and I do everything in my power to exceed expectations. I think my personality and calm demeanor set me apart from others. Weddings are stressful, but the last thing a bride needs is a photographer who wears their stress for others to see.
What were you like growing up?
I have always been interested in art and music. From 6th grade on, you could always find me with headphones in – either in the car, or trying to hide them from my teachers at school. Music and photography went hand in hand as I was growing up. I was always taking photos at concerts and with my friends.
I think my family contributed significantly to my interests growing up. My dad constantly had records playing and is a great artist and guitar player, and my mom and sister both sing and play various instruments. I focused more on the listening side of music, but music and art were always a constant in my home growing up.
