Meet Hannah McAdams of Hannah Rita Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah McAdams.

Hannah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I believe my love for photography was always inside of me, but it wasn’t brought to fruition until my friend Brian Moore became my mentor and taught me how to operate a camera in 2015. I was instantly hooked. My mother was an avid photographer. I believe her love for photography transcended to me through the many albums she created for us.

I am also a hopeless romantic with an obsession over weddings. I came to the realization that photography was a multi-dimensional field that went far beyond the operations of the camera. Photography is about connecting with people. With the camera, I become a storyteller, an artist, and a catalyst. I can bring out the goofy sides of couples or the more serious sides just by how I interact with them during a photography session.

This is why I love photography so much. It is where my love for people and my artistic vision is brought to life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My photography business has been an ongoing learning process. It took time and experience for me to find my style. From the beginning, I knew that wedding photography was my niche. I love the high energy of the day and capturing all of the little details along with the must-have BIG moments.

I believe the most difficult part for me is learning when to say no. I have learned to say no to areas of photography that I am not passionate about. That is why I focus on my passion which is weddings/elopements/travel/engagements. Another obstacle I’ve learned to overcome is not comparing myself too much to other photographers.

My soul is ignited by the moody, random photos that are unexpected. The photos that capture a real moment with authentic emotions is what I crave. I used to sit behind my computer and wonder if I should share a photo. I wondered because I was unsure if others would appreciate them the way I do.

But once I started sharing those photos, I realized that others do appreciate my work. Worrying too much about what others think only hinders creativity. I’ve become confident in my craft and who I am as a photographer.

Please tell us about Hannah Rita Photography.
My photography business is focused on couples, engagement, destination elopements/weddings, and local Atlanta area wedding photography.

I specialize in documentary style romantic photographs. My style exudes romance and authentic expressions. My motto that I stand by is that your wedding photography should be about YOUR WEDDING. Your wedding should NOT be about your photos. I strive to document authentic moments that are inspired by the couple’s love for one another throughout the day.

Often times the wedding becomes an orchestrated event about the photographs which I feel takes away from the enjoyment of the wedding day. Of course, there are small periods of time where I will pose everyone for group shots and orchestrate the couple’s portraits. But my goal is to allow the wedding to happen as naturally as possible so that the bride and groom can enjoy this day that goes by so quickly.

I am most proud to have found this passion of mine that allows me to connect with so many amazing people. What sets me apart from other photographers is my genuine passion for people. I am not only passionate about photography, I am passionate about my clients and their love story. I strive to capture each client’s love story through my lens that is true to them while infusing my artistic vision.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
A few come to mind. The memories that are so special to me are the ones of my dad and I bass tournament fishing. That is where I fell in love with the water and where I also found patience. I have a deep appreciation for fishing and for those times on the lake spent with my dad.
