Meet JaJuan Williams of The Lady CPA Inc, & CFO Benefits Inc in Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to JaJuan Williams.

Thanks for sharing your story with us JaJuan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been in the accounting profession for over 18 years. After graduating from college with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and planned to go to Law School. However, after working as a payroll administrator after college, I decided to pursue accounting. I received Master in Business with a concentration in accounting. I started in corporate accounting and in 2009 left that position to work full time in my own accounting firm. I started the firm in Charlotte, NC and moved to Atlanta in 2014 to expand the firm and act as a CFO Consultant for a major marketing firm in Atlanta. My firm is completely virtual with clients all over the world as well as employees all over the world. The spin-off of CFO Benefits is my Non-Profit Organization The Lady CPA Inc. I formed this organization as a support and mentoring program for women in accounting and finance.

Has it been a smooth road?
The accounting firm has not been a smooth road. As a business owner in a service-based business, I was the marketing and sales team. Who best to sell my services than me. So, I worked 60-70 hours per week, made myself available to clients all the time in order to deliver the best customer service I could. Being an entrepreneur takes dedication, sacrifice and most importantly, perseverance.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lady CPA Inc, & CFO Benefits Inc story. Tell us more about the business.
My company is a full-service accounting firm. We offer accounting, bookkeeping and Tax Services. Our specialty to Real Estate accounting and Cannabis Accounting. I am most proud of my certification as an accountant which was a very difficult process. Many people don’t know that African Americans only make up 2% of Certified Public Accountants (CPA’s). African American have faced barriers in obtaining certification since 1921 when the first African American obtained licensure. It was until 1943 the 1st African American Women obtained licensure. What sets my firm apart from others is our knowledge of current technology and trends. We ensure that we stay on top of the newest technology in order to deliver our clients with the best and most accurate information possible.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Technology is playing a large part in the accounting industry as well as the ability to offer your clients more than basic accounting services. Clients need advisory services, marketing services, management services, and someone that can do more than crunch numbers. Clients need someone who can be a part of their team and really direct them in the financial pursuits of their business. We have to be able to offer clients more!

On the non-profit side of my business, this world is encouraging diversity, actually seeking diversity. Companies come to our organization seeking women to fill potions as CFO, Controller, finance director, accounting manager, etc. My organization is preparing these women, assisting these women, mentoring women, to assist them in achieving their career goals.
