Meet Jarok Whalen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarok Whalen.

Jarok, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started off in highschool, a lot of my friends were doing music/producing beats/freestyling, so I got introduced to the culture pretty quickly. My friends were mostly doing crazy stuff like slanging, gang-related stuff like that. Trevon, one of my homeboys, was related to Pastor Troy. I learned a lot from him. He was a local rapper too. But I never really took the whole game serious, I was more interested in getting money, getting into trouble too at some point. Eventually, years passed and I started getting tired of an average 9 to 5, I was hustling a lot trying to get some extra cash because nowadays it’s hard to sustain. I was getting back into the music game, doing a lot of music and released some songs in my small circle and they spread it around. One of my coworkers knew some people in a record company and they liked the demos. So currently, I’m over here in Europe right now working with professionals and planning, getting ready to drop some singles, mixtapes and music videos.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Mostly the biggest struggle was to find myself and to keep myself out of trouble with the law. If you have a bad circle, it can mess you up.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m a rapper who sees the bigger picture. It’s not only about the cash and fame. It’s about getting people together, spreading a good message, helping people to become a better version of themselves. I like to push people with motivational speeches, working with people who also believe in the bigger good. All my songs are personal. Every song is a different chapter out of my life, so people can relate to my experiences.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Currently, we’re working with a lot of people from around the world on a mixtape and some music videos that will debut on some big websites in the near future.
