Today we’d like to introduce you to Jataya Combs.

Hi Jataya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up, I always loved everything pink, sparkly, and girly! My mom and dad made sure I was at the beauty shop every two weeks and that I was dressed to the nines in and out of church. My sister let me experiment with her makeup, and my God sisters didn’t know, but I was always in their jewelry and makeup. All of these experiences made me feel like an absolute princess, and I didn’t know it then, but this is what birthed Bombshell Beauty Boutique, LLC. In late 2015, my passion for beauty re-emerged, and I started to experiment with different hairstyles (box braids, cornrows, twists, sew-ins, etc.) and makeup looks on myself as well as my friends. I got my first professional sew-in soon after, and it boosted my confidence so much that I immediately decided I wanted to always be a part of the hair community.

From that point on, I did hair on the side until COVID came and changed the world. During that time, I started to brainstorm ideas on how to really expand my business and make a name for myself. I did a lot of research and finally started to put things into place. I created my LLC last year and just launched it in March of this year. It has been a journey, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing in life is easy, so no. Becoming an entrepreneur and teaching myself everything through trial and error is very tedious, but it’s been worth it. I’m also my own graphic designer, website designer, financial analyst, accountant, and marketer. Sometimes I get overwhelmed because there are so many different aspects to everything, and there’s always something new to learn. Also, a very hard pill to swallow is that everyone won’t support you. I’ve had to stop myself from becoming discouraged many times because the people that I threw my business ideas around with are nowhere to be found now that I’ve actually made my dream a reality. My friends who were so excited and counting down the days to my launch, didn’t buy anything from me. It made me feel like what I was offering was worthless. These experiences made me realize that I can’t expect myself out of everyone. Everything I do may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but as long as I’m passionate and work hard for my brand, it will succeed.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Bombshell Beauty Boutique, LLC, is a brand that was created with passion. I want every woman, especially black women, to feel as comfortable as they can in their skin. Being well-made has always boosted my confidence and made me feel as if I could tackle anything. We currently offer bundles, wigs, tape-ins, clip-ins, lashes, and accessories that are soon to come!

I know the hair market is saturated, but the passion that I have for people and self-love is what sets me apart from everyone else. I love to see people elevate personally as well as professionally, and being able to facilitate that by growing their self-love with my products is amazing! I’m so proud and grateful that God allowed me to take my dream off paper and make it real.

What does success mean to you?
Success for me is accomplishing a set goal. Persevering through all odds and obstacles that may present themselves to you. Many things may not go right, but being able to trust God to recalibrate your focus and keep your eyes aligned with the prize will always lead you in the direction of success.
