Meet Jaylan Baker of Katherine Valley Records in Rex

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylan Baker.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up immersed in the Hip-Hop, R&B, and Gospel culture. As a youngster, I began to express myself through writing about my surroundings and upbringing. My expressions on paper later became my voice, which gradually led me to becoming an artist. Also coming from a lineage of musicians and singers, I kinda figured music would be my passion. I grew up mimicking some of my idols, such as Andre 3000, Lil Wayne, and Kendrick Lamar. After hours of studying, perfecting my craft, and doing my research, I eventually found my sound.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This game is very challenging, you can be up one day and down the next. The most challenging thing for me was getting people to take me serious as an artist and also building a devoted fan base.

But I’m learning the more you stay in their face, the more they have to watch you.

Katherine Valley Records is an upcoming independent record label, as of now, we specialize in Publishing, Marketing, and much more.

I’m best acknowledged for being an artist and songwriter.

What sets me apart from others is I have no genre, there’s no limitation to where I can take it. My sound is immaculate, supreme, and authentic. You can’t compare me to anything beneath the greats.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is accomplishing the impossible, making a way out of no way and proving doubters wrong. Success is when I wake up and see my reflection in the mirror and feel good about myself. Most people think success means having a lot of money, fancy cars, and fame when in actuality it’s not. SUCCESS IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT!
