Today we’d like to introduce you to Jejuan Smith.
Jejuan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m originally from Winston Salem, North Carolina. I was an Athlete lettering in two sports, football and Basketball Varsity. I began modeling at the age of 16, selling shirts during school but also branding myself through music and fashion. I gained a passion for being able to be creative all the way to college in which I received a football scholarship and later years offers from other basketball college programs. Over the years I did music videos but had a hard time moving forward until I became an extra on a tv show. I used that day to my advantage by being professional but also networking and finding out how I can grow my job title in a second. I am here today still pushing my goals and dreams, even though I’ve accomplished goals I’ve set, there are always much much more to set for yourself.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wouldn’t say smooth, there were times I’ve wanted to do things or create things but financially couldn’t. I was 18-19-20 already around the industry, but the things I was involved is very hard to maintain or the way people view you, so I felt so much more force to work harder. It was a tough road but my favorite saying is the Journey is the reward!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jsproductionsgroup – what should we know?
My company Jsproductionsgroup is an American Film company created by myself. I am an actor, Model, Stunt Double, Stand in, Producer, Director, Entrepreneur, and Artist all in one. I work on the tv show Atlanta FX, Being Mary Jane, and many more! I’ve written my own film and other films that have been working hand and hand with myself and tv networks. I specialize in creating opportunities, such as film as a writer and filmmaker, I shoot photos and I allow others to be creative most of the time if they work with me. I would say I’m probably most known for modeling & acting. I am most proud of my first short Walk A Mile in which was played in theaters around the country, New York, Los Angeles, Florida, AND MORE, I think what sets me apart is I started in 2008 before the era of Instagram, I have always wanted to be great and not have to be reminded. I’m always trying to tell people new ideas or create something lol. I would send friends text at 6 am telling them how it’ll be dope if we go shoot on a top of the mountain today just random stuff like that. Mostly just always wanting to do more, or break the mold.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are so many people in my corner that have helped me beyond career-wise but raising me in general. God, My Parents, Family, Friends, Film Makers Friends, the people that have raised me, My coaches over the years.
My mom, I will shout her out not because she’s my mother but she always believed in me and would understand the grind, the biggest thing is being able to make your mother, and FAMILY proud and then also providing for your family then leaving a legacy. I’m grateful to have that teaching now that I’m older.
