Meet Jenny Lind of Mystique Brows in Buford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Lind.

Jenny, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Previous to doing permanent make up, I was a hairstylist and make up artist for over 20 years. I went through a whole transformation at the age of 40. From being a new mom all over again, having my other child in college (2 children 16 years apart), to finally being able to walk away from a 22 .year relationship. And if that wasn’t enough, all the other things life decides to throw at us all at once. I remember it was 3ish in the morning, and I was having a hard time processing all these things that were about to change. I remember feeling burnt out. My career was coming to where the fun was not in it, and it was time to change that as well. I was on Facebook and saw this fantastic brow enhancement that this artist was doing to a young lady with alopecia, and that day I discovered microblading. That was 2015. I reached out to that artist. They were in Lithuania and advised me that they were doing the first class in the USA in about four months. I took the last bit of money I had and paid the deposit for the class. The time came, and my daughter (20 at the time ) and I was on the road to Tampa, FL to take the class together and assist with hosting. The rest, as they say, was history. From that training, I was asked by that same company to become their US ambassador and manager.

I traveled to many places to learn and educate with and for other artists from Europe to Mexico. I then decided it was time to spearhead my own company, Mystique Brows. being bi-lingual assisted me with reaching out to Mexico and South America to teach other aspiring artists what I know. I was also able to co-organize a company called PMU Women Of Color. The organization that gives an outlet to the artist of ethic background an opportunity to engage, elevate and support each other. Along with my partner, we formed PMU Women of Color Conference right here in Atlanta, GA. This is a great time to be in this billion dollar industry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not always been a smooth road. I do feel that nothing worth having comes easy. I have had plenty of obstacles in my way. First would be being an Afro-Latina in a predominately white industry. There were many times I had to work ten times harder to gain the respect of my peers. And even then, you get second-guessed or overlooked. That was how the PMU Women Of Conference was born. It came about over a Social media post asking why there was no representation of black women at any of these permanent make up conference.

Please tell us about your business.
My company is Mystique Brows. Up until recently, It was a one women show. I specialize in permanent make up, and service knows as Ombre Brow. I have my own technique and way of doing brows that is called Boundless Brows™️ . What sets me apart from other artists is that I have a complete, versatile clientele and I am an expert on working with Women of Color. I am proud of the many barriers and doors we have opened for artists who would not normally have a voice in this industry. I am proud that we were able to create a tone that we must be included as the demographics of this industry have changed widely. I am particularly proud of being apart of a pigmented line that was made specifically for black skin called Queen Pigments™️.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
PMU Women of Conference 2019. It was sold out, and it was such a beautiful and prideful event.
