Meet Jesse Spade of Jesse Spade Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Spade.

Jesse, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been a fan of motorcycles. By the time I got my first ATV at the age of ten, I had spent a good year researching dirt bikes, but ended up getting something with four wheels to satisfy my mom. After about a year of demonstrating an acceptable level of responsibility on four wheels, I was allowed to move to two. Motorcycles were my life until girls and cars took over at the age of 17 and I took a break from bikes until the late 90s when I discovered street bikes. I was in the custom Jeep business at the time, and my love of modifying and customizing Jeeps immediately applied to my motorcycles, also. So, I went on for years buying, customizing, riding, and selling bikes just as a hobby. I always wanted to build bikes for a living, but the Jeep biz was treating me right and knew there was no real money in motorcycles.

After 22 years in the Jeep business, I reached code red level 10 burn out, and decided to try building bikes for a living. It’s been a little over a year and I really enjoy building bikes. Everything has been very well received so far, and I think I have a chance of making it work.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The motorcycle industry is tiny compared to cars, and finding suitable clients is very difficult.

Jesse Spade Designs – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I build custom motorcycles. They are generally a mix of cafe racers and street fighters which I affectionately refer to as cafe fighters.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Winning first in my class at the Championship of the Americas motorcycle show last year.
