Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Ng.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always loved photography but I had no clue how to even work a camera. My husband needed me to take some pictures for a project he was working on so I took a Kodak point and shoot and went for it. It was not until a lady came to my church and offered a class to anyone who was interested in learning how to take pictures-I said sign me up. I took the class and loved it!!! I learned as much as I could from her and I am pretty sure I drove her crazy with all my questions, but I really had a hunger and desire to learn. I would take pictures and people would ask me to take pictures of them and I would just say no, I am not a professional I just do this for fun.
However, a very persistent friend made me take his pictures with his wife and it was at that moment that my life changed. I never in a million years would have ever thought that one class would have changed my life and I would be doing what I do today. I feel so incredibly blessed and thankful for all the love and support that I have been given so that I could pursue my passion.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
NO, I would say it has not been a smooth road. I would say my struggles would be finding my own style and voice as a photographer and confidence in myself to know that I could make my passion my career.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Ng Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in Family, Children, Senior and Wedding photography. I also shoot real estate, maternity, and newborns but prefer to shoot Families and little ones and I absolutely love weddings! I would say I am most proud that when people hear or know about our business people think of excellence- Anything we do we always strive to do things in the spirit of excellence. I would say what sets us apart is our work ethic and our unique style and kids love me!!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say I have been lucky because I live in a military town, there are lots of other “photographers” but I am local. I have basically grown up in the town where my business is located so I have roots here and I really believe that has really been where I am lucky or you could say blessed. I have been able to grow a business in town with people that live here for maybe 3-4 years at a time.
