Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe And Courtney Boassy.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Pool construction has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’m a third-generation pool builder. My grandfather built pools, my dad built pools, and from a young age I was right there beside them learning the trade. I also grew up in a big family with seven brothers, so hard work, teamwork, and learning to rely on each other was just part of life.
As I got older, I became more hands-on. By middle school and high school, I was already helping on job sites and learning every part of the process. After graduating high school, I went to work full-time with my dad. Building pools was all I had ever known, but at one point I decided to step away from the industry and try something different in the corporate world. During that time, I learned a lot about leadership, managing teams, communication, and running operations. Those were lessons that would later become invaluable as a business owner.
Eventually, though, I felt pulled back to what I loved most. I returned to the pool industry and continued building pools alongside my dad. Around that same time, I met my wife, Courtney, at the Atlanta Braves home opener in 2014. She was in nursing school then and later became a pediatric nurse, a career she still loves today.
For years, Courtney watched me work as a subcontractor building pools for other companies. She saw the long hours, the dedication, and the amount of work I put into every project. After hearing countless conversations about the industry and how things operated, she kept asking me the same question: “Why are you building the pools while someone else is running the company?”
At first, I ignored the idea of starting my own business. Instead, I took a position as a foreman with another pool company, where I gained even more experience managing projects from start to finish- permits, contracts, scheduling, inspections, and every detail that goes into building a quality pool. But every few months, Courtney would bring up the idea again.
By then, we were married and raising three kids together, and the idea of building something for our own family started to mean more and more. In early 2024, we finally decided to take a leap of faith and start our own company.
Courtney played a huge role in making that happen. While I focused on construction and operations, she handled so much of the foundation behind the scenes- creating the LLC, researching insurance, setting up licensing, and helping turn an idea into a real business. In many ways, she helped build this company just as much as I did.
Today, we’re proud to be a true family-owned and operated company. My brother Danny is our pool maintenance manager. My dad works as a subcontractor for me now. A couple of my other brothers work as subcontractors too. Courtney still does a lot of the behind the scenes work and all of our social media posts. We are the definition of family operated!
Starting from the ground up wasn’t easy, but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives. Every pool we build represents years of experience, family tradition, and a commitment to doing things the right way. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, grateful for the support of our community, and excited for where this journey will take us next.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting our own company definitely came with challenges. Taking the leap of faith while raising three kids was scary at times, and learning to balance everything that comes with running a business was a big adjustment, especially because Courtney still works as an RN.
We’ve also had to work through things like weather delays, scheduling, and the ups and downs that come with construction. But every challenge has helped us grow stronger as a company and as a family.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about A&E Pool Contractors, LLC?
We specialize in in-ground vinyl swimming pools, including new construction, full renovations, and liner replacements. In recent years, we’ve completed a lot of major renovations on older vinyl pools, including replacing outdated fiberglass steps with modern tanning ledges. Years ago, tanning ledges weren’t commonly built into pools, but now they’re one of the most requested features. Being able to add them during a renovation helps make older pools feel more updated, functional, and family-friendly.
We also provide weekly cleaning and maintenance for all types of in-ground pools, including vinyl, gunite, and fiberglass. We take pride in delivering high-quality workmanship, honest and easy communication, and a hands-on approach from start to finish.
What sets us apart is that we’re not just selling pools, we’re the ones actually building them! With years of hands-on construction experience, we understand every stage of the process and truly care about the finished product. We believe in treating every project like it’s our own backyard.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like most about metro Atlanta is how much people value their outdoor living spaces. With the climate here, pools really become part of how families spend their time together, and there’s a strong appreciation for backyard upgrades and renovations. It’s also a growing area, so there’s a lot of opportunity for new construction and remodels.
I think we can all agree that the worst thing about Atlanta is the traffic!
