Today we’d like to introduce you to Kassian Briana.
Kassian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey of modeling began as far as I can remember when I was only a little girl in Elementary school. Growing up, my mom has always been asked if she put me in modeling and if not that she should. My very first time modeling was for Belk, they chose me and a few other girls to do an in-store fashion show and we were able to choose any outfit from the store that we wanted and had to show it off on the runway. I personally never thought I would grow up to actually become a model, but I’ve always had an interest in clothing/fashion. I really got into it and started to research about the industry when I was only 14 years old. Once I got to high school, that was all I could think about.
I began to contact local photographers and ask them if they could help me get professional photos to start building my portfolio. They immediately wanted to shoot with me and told me that I looked like a model already and that I’m going to go very far. I took that as a chance to really show my mom and everyone that this was something I really could pursue and that I really wanted to make this my career. As an aspiring model, I had to make my social media look presentable and professional. I started to receive messages and emails from small boutiques and clothing lines, asking me to model for them. After receiving positive feedback from the small campaigns, boutique shoots, and fashion shows I have worked on has inspired me to want to continue modeling as a full-time career.
I had my very first interview with HOP models & talent agency in August of last year. I really loved the way they understood my goals and plans for my future and found out that they loved me also and actually wanted to sign me and help me to improve and move forward with my career. I am now signed, currently 18 and so far, I have worked with some of the best fashion designers, photographers, and other great people within the industry in Atlanta, New York, Miami, LA, etc. As of now, me and my mother agent are working on signing me within a secondary agency, and I am very excited for what the future holds.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So far, I would say it hasn’t been a perfect road, of course, nothing is perfect but I will say I have had some of the best experiences within my career. However, some struggles I will share would mainly have to do with having natural thick curly hair. I love to wear my natural hair, especially as a model. People love my hair but the thing that I struggle most with is people in the industry actually knowing how to do it. Instead of trying to learn my natural hair, the stylist will put heat on my hair, straighten it or they will just ask me to leave it out and won’t actually do anything to it. As a model, don’t be afraid to say “no” because I know there are models that have it worse than me when it comes to this. I don’t like to put heat on my hair all the time and I will wear my hair naturally before I allow my hair to be damaged.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a Fashion Model currently based in Atlanta. I specialize in Fashion, Runway, Editorial, and Swimwear. I have been featured in many magazines, including Kontrol Magazine, In the City Magazine, etc. Fashion weeks, I have walked for include, New York Fashion Week, Miami Swim Week, and Atlanta International Fashion Week.
I am mostly proud of the young woman that I have turned into along my journey, I have become very knowledgable and experienced with a lot of things that I plan to pass on to those younger than me and those that look up to me as a person and as a model. I think what sets me apart from others is that I really enjoy learning new things and I am constantly seeking out new learning opportunities. I always take risks and step out of my comfort zone to get the things I want done. I enjoy pushing myself to my limits, I enjoy a challenge and as a self-motivated person, I really love going above and beyond for the things I want.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, I don’t think I have anything I would have done differently besides starting earlier. My experiences have helped me grow as a person and a model and I wouldn’t change anything about it.
