Today we’d like to introduce you to Kawana Finley-Franklin.
Kawana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved fashion as a little girl and I wanted to work in the Fashion Industry. After giving birth to my son I was lost. The goal was to start doing the things that made me happy outside of motherhood. That’s when I created my blog “Just Kawana”. Originally when I created my blog, I wanted to discuss just Fashion. Since starting Just Kawana two years ago, my life has changed so much. On my blog, you can now find Fashion, Beauty, hair, and my parenting experiences.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth at all! I’ve thought about quitting so many times in the last two years. It’s hard being consistent when you can’t really see the rewards you want or looking for. I also don’t have many blogging friends, so people can be very critical because they don’t understand why you’re posting every other day. I’ve learned to tune out the negative thoughts of others and myself for the most part and keep pushing because this is something I really want.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I run a blog called “Just Kawana” where I focus on Fashion, Beauty, and My Parenting experiences. I created my blog for women like myself. Women who have families to take care of but in the meantime taking care of herself. I specialize in everyday wearable fashion for women and moms that love looking nice on a budget. I’m known for all of my amazing fashion finds.
I am so proud of how far I’ve come and remaining true to myself in the process. It’s so easy to do what every other blogger is doing because it seems as if those are the women winning but then that would just make me the same. I like being relatable to other women especially millennial moms like myself. I don’t have a perfect feed because I’m not a perfect person. That’s what sets me apart from all the other bloggers out there.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I feel like you can create a blog in any city. I use to think I had to be in a different location to create good content but that’s not true. It does not matter where you are if your not willing to put in the work you can’t improve. You can always travel to the locations that have different blogging events. If you really want to do something your location should be your last issue.
