Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiswane and Jazmine Keys.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My sister Jazmine was consultant for Paparazzi Accessories for two years, looking to make a few extra dollars outside of her full-time job as a Program Manager for a Community Based Mental Health Agency. She hired me as her assistant to help locate events, accessorize, and sell the jewelry and to also help her to build a team of other consultants. Initially we did well, but it became increasingly difficult to find events as the area in which we live became saturated with consultants selling the same jewelry. One evening, I gave her the idea of starting our own family business of creating our own bracelets.
This was about one year ago and one day in May 2019, we decided to take the plunge and invest in our business of creating pieces that were one of a kind, making waist beads for those trying to lose weight, men’s bracelets, and anklets and women’s bracelets We wanted our brand to be eclectic in style and outrageous in color with a mix of different cultures such as African styles, Bohemian, and a little bit of traditional. We also wanted some of the pieces to include stone that helps with whole wellness such as understanding the meanings of Chakra and how these stones assist with healing the body, mind, and spirit. From this Kultured Kreations was born.
Has it been a smooth road?
Like any business, it is always difficult in the beginning. To overcome these difficulties, we always remember why we started this business and what we are trying to accomplish. We want to build a legacy for our children and encourage and inspire them to start their own business. We also look at what makes us different from other jewelry makers, we think of quality, and we think of cost. We are a low-cost business, as we are not trying to “break people’s pockets”, but want to “kreate” something that they love and makes them feel good and not a piece that looks like every other piece they have seen. We keep it simple.
Some of the struggles, which are good struggles is not trying to buy every beautiful stone we see. We recently went to our first wholesale event and was immediately overwhelmed with stones by all of the different vendors. We didn’t know what to buy or where to start. We set a budget and bought what we wanted and thought would sell well and what people will like. Another struggle that will always be is the competition. We have joined some jewelry groups on social media and the pieces they have created are amazing. But we look at those pieces and think of other amazing ways we can “kreate” another piece.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kultured Kreations – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a small family business based out of our home. We “kreate” women’s and men’s bracelets, waist beads, and anklets. We are mostly known for putting together custom pieces that the customer chooses. We mostly make a piece, wear it, and post on social media and if liked, customers message us. We are most proud because our family is involved in this. Our children watch our work, watch how we work through the night, and they also listen to how we have set this business up and become educated on how a business is run. What sets us apart from others is that our pieces are funky, different, but simple and our prices for any single piece does not exceed $30.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Atlanta has evolved since my sister and I were small. We are both from Decatur, Georgia. We love Atlanta because it is diverse. It’s one of those cities where there is going to be someone who likes or loves your product. There are so many free spirits and that what we create in our jewelry. We have something for everyone. What we least like about our city is probably the traffic, lol. We love everything about our city.
