Meet Magen Hampton of Protein Power Inc. in Duluth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Magen Hampton.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Magen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Looking back at time, as a kid I loved to talk to strangers to everyone and anyone who approached me. Everyone has a story to tell and that’s what I love to hear. Listening to others allows me to learn from their experience and that is what I value the most. What I learn from the majority of people is to follow my passion and purpose for serving others, never dim my light and keep dancing! Throughout my educational years I continued dancing straight into high school and then I fell all the way off. As life happens, I moved and though I did not give up on going out to dance, the routine of dance fell through the cracks of work, work and more work.

I settled and settling took a toll on my mind, body and soul, in 2014 I left my Corporate State Farm Insurance position and went straight into selling Life Insurance! This position allowed me the opportunity to meet with people and help their future. I met a fellow dance enthusiast while I was helping others, who introduced me to Zumba and encouraged me to take a lesson. It was all coming into place, I attended Aja White’s Zumba Class at LA Fitness Sugarloaf and I approached her after class about being my Zumba instructor mentor. Within 10 minutes we clicked and exchanged numbers, I continued going to her class, after two classes she agreed, and told me to get my certification.

Less than six months later, I was in South Carolina getting that certification and I began the rest of my life. As a Zumba instructor at LA Fitness I loved its atmosphere, particularly Sugarloaf because there was a Smoothie Bar and convenience is everything for a young fitness instructor running between classes. Back to LA Fitness Sugarloaf, as I continued networking with other fitness instructors, they talked about certain benefits to getting out of the fitness classes.

From 2015 -2019, I completed multiple Group & Personal Training Certifications for business requirements & personal education. Little did I know these skills combined with my work ethic and personality would open doors for me to work closely in the Fitness and Nutrition business with 10 different Small Business Owners. This close contact with Drive, Dedication and Discipline to support others lit a manifesting fire within me.

Fast forward to 2019, I reached out to Ebonii Ward, a high school friend who is now a community icon. I met with her for a Business coaching session. She introduced me to the previous owner of the Smoothie Bar inside of LA Fitness Sugarloaf and we connected immediately. We bonded so well that she informed me she was selling the bar and meeting with multiple buyers.

I started thinking right away and then I shared it with my parents who are active cycle instructors and appreciate staying fit for life! We were talking about it, praying about it and received our approval to move on. To God be the glory, of all the buyers she sold the business to us and we are grateful to be a part of the small business community that serves to support others getting healthier, without disturbing our taste buds or breaking the bank.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road is far from smooth and we like it like that! Protein Power Inc is a family business and a Boricua familia, at that, which means communication overload, extra emotional love and longer than usual business/family meetings. We are a loving family working together to Power Up the fitness community to Master their Power with Protein Power.

Our struggles vary between Protein vendors, Fresh Produce sale driving distances and time off! For the moment it is currently my father and I running the labor hours. Plus, I have a husband and almost two year old baby at home so it can be a bit much but I love every minute of it in the moment or later!

Powering the community comes with its own struggles we appreciate every minute of the lessons at hand. There is nothing more satisfying than supporting others working towards their goals. We provide more than Protein because we are in a gym but our website is focused on Protein Power to help others Get those Gains! Also, the website is updating every day with products so stay tuned for this Protein Power.

Protein Power Inc is a smoothie bar dedicated to blending fresh or frozen fruits only, adding one full scoop of protein and serving Protein Power so you can Master your Power for the day! We are located inside of a LA Fitness Sugarloaf so we cater to the gym smoothie bar necessities, gym bag essentials and Protein Power.

I am the co-founder of Protein Power Inc. and my life purpose is empowering others to live their healthiest life mentally, physically and spiritually. As the co-founder I specialize in Collaborating, Marketing, Graphic Design, Photography Directing and varies other creative labor roles. Everyone knows me as the happy short woman either on a mission or being a social butterfly!

As a company we are most proud of our commitment to continue improving within LA Fitness and outside of LA Fitness. My father and I set us apart from others which is a factor I hold dear to my heart and I can say that confidently because that is something, we are known for with the LA Fitness Sugarloaf Family!

There is Power in three so I will only mention three because to list one would be a lot!!! Power of three: Alicia for being the biggest supporter of Protein Power Inc. Gianna & Edward Ortiz, my parents have been my biggest cheerleaders since birth. I am beyond grateful to have such a powerful couple as parents and business partners. I know a lot of people who cannot grasp the tight relationship I have with my parents but it is there and it is sealed shut. I tell my parents more than they would like to know but keeping it 100% real with my family and close friends is a trait I wear confidently! Jason Hampton, my husband and biggest supporter who always keeps me grounded.
