Meet Marcus J. Booth of Basejeezus Productions in Gwinnett County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus J. Booth.

Marcus, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started when I was 11. My father got me a Canon Powershot point and shoot camera. I had an interest in it with him owning a VHS camera so I started my YouTube and made PSP tutorials and action figure videos as well lol. I started out using the family computer to editing of windows movie maker all at a young age. I taught myself majority of the time with a crutch of what they call “YouTube University.”

For my 16th birthday, I got my first DSLR Camera, and at this time, It’s 2014, and I’m in high school with my at the time friend group in which we were all artistically collectively together galvanize me into diving into Music. What’s crazier is that the culture of music influenced me to revamp myself, even more, to tackle multiple skills in Media. Such as visual effects and Animation. Thought the years of studying at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke in North Carolina my sophomore year, I was recommended digital media classes that I didn’t even knew existed because of how small the school was. I ended up passing the intro digital media integration class with a C. It was hard, but I stuck with it and took advanced classes because It was the genuine start of what I strive to work towards and incorporated many times in my own way to this day.

Has it been a smooth road?
The only struggle I had that wasn’t really struggle but somewhat was at the same time? was just being a full-time college student and student-athlete. You know, being in classes Monday-Friday and only having the weekend to myself. At first when I first came to college, I had no time to focus on videography and photography cause I was running collegiate track and id be so tired. I eventually cleared my schedule for what I really wanted to do, took the steps to go further and also, becoming more keener taking opportunities to network because of my tight schedule.

After my first year of college, I quit the track team, winning a championship ring and devote more time to managing studies better and devoting even more time to my career. Eventually, it went from me being surrounding by nothing but schooling all day to me traveling to different cities on freelance work almost if not every weekend in my three remaining years. Continuing then to schedule more things on the week and so on.

I personally feel like if you really have a dream and a long-term goal that’s going to set you for life that you love, you’ll do anything to make the effort to fuel it in and every way you can. Meaning risks and sacrifices Just by sacrificing something I also wanted to do and taking risk I was able to attend big networking events that I always wanted to go too such as at SXSW and Rolling Loud and started freelancing U.S wide.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a freelance Videographer, Photographer, Visual Effects Specialist and Upcoming Animator. What sets me apart from the norm is that I can tackle 4-7 different positions in media as one person which makes me a one-man-army.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina about four months ago. I love the atmosphere out here. Its way different from where I’m from. Charlotte is an upcoming city that is a little behind on culture but its getting there. I moved here at a good time, It’s growing everyday. It is currently the 15 largest city in the US surpassing San Fran so I think that’s pretty fye too. It gets compared to Atlanta a lot because its on the same interstate stretch as ATL. But, I feel like once Charlotte REALLY discovers its Identity its gonna be a gem once slept on.
