Meet Marquita Leonard of Bright Beginnings Credit Repair in Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquita Leonard.

Marquita, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hello,  My name is MarQuita Leonard I am a single mom of two ages 9, and 12. I am originally from Eclectic, Alabama born and raised. I moved to Duluth, GA on January 2011 with no job and a dream. I had 10,000 saved up and moved with my daughter a 6-month-old son. Shortly after moving GA, I decided to visit back home to visit my sick grandmother. When I went home to visit March of 2011, my brother stole my car and totaled it out. I did not have car insurance so I was devastated and hurt. Here I am, just moved to GA with no job and now I don’t have a car. I ended up being without a car for a whole year. I ended up being evicted from my apartment after six months. I did find another apartment and managed to keep it for a year and got evicted again. I had a job but I wasn’t making ends meet. I caught a taxi to work one day and stopped my Starbucks with my newborn. I started chatting with a guy in line. He stated I saw you get out of a taxi, I have a used car lot.

After telling him my story, he blessed with a trailblazer for $3,000, my life got better. I found a townhouse from a private owner. I paid the guy $2,000 to move in. Here I am, a single mother with two kids and guardianship of my sister. I got the Uhaul ready to move into my new townhome. I put the key in the lock and it did not work. The guy didn’t own the townhouse and had scammed me out of my money. I had to sleep in my car for days. The worse days of my life. I was homeless with nowhere to go. I managed to get some assistance from the Red Cross, I found an apartment in Marietta. I started an in-home daycare and things were starting to look up. I was able to maintain my apartment for two years. I got evicted yet again. I stayed with a homeboy of mine. I worked overtime for two months so I could get another roof over me and my children’s head. I found another townhome for rent. The guy said to me, mam, you have 3 evictions but God told me to give you a chance. I maintained that townhouse for three years without getting evicted.

I worked my tail off. I fixed my credit and took life seriously. I was tired of struggling. I found a job at Reinhart Food Service making $14hr I was straight my rent was only $750. I got my credit score to 823 :). I bought my first home on April 23, 2017. I couldn’t believe it I bought a 5 bedroom 3 bathroom home. I started fixing friends and family credit. I got laid off my job in May of 2016, I went hard fixing credit. I never thought I would be an Entrepreneur. I started my own business Bright Beginnings Credit Repair. I now have a multi Million dollar Credit Repair Business with over 1000 clients. I have a Non-Profit Organization called Chosen Destiny Foundation where we service the homeless. I have a Tax Company, I’m a Certified Life Coach, thanks to Tony Gaskins. I have a Business Consulting firm. I have 9 Real Estate Properties that I own. I have a vacation home in Miami, Florida. GOD HAS BEEN GOOD TO ME. My struggle is now my testimony. I’ve been evicted 8 times my entire life and now, I own 9 properties. Now, I am helping thousands of people better their credit and finances and not struggle as I did.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been extremely hard but God brought me out. Some of the struggles were being homeless, losing jobs, and starting my own business. I must thank God and my Pastor Craig L. Oliver Sr., I don’t know where would I be without him and my church family, Elizabeth Baptist Church. My Pastor changed my mindset and his teaching changed my life. I also would like to thank Pastor Tim Sims, Deandre Majette, Felisha Davenport, Ashley Broughton, Kizzy Guinn,  Moshua Brown, Robert Blackmon and Derrick Leonard for being great friends in my life. Without these guys I would have lost it some days.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have educated myself more on credit and finances. My parents never taught me how important it was to have good credit. I lost my mom in 2007 to breast cancer and my grandmother who raised me in 2013 to a brain aneurysm. I have been alone and fighting alone. I’m a single parent who has no active fathers and never received a dime of child support. I’m the definition of a true survivor. I learned that everything you lose is not a loss. Often times, we try to hold on to things and people that we should have been let go! We make excuses for why we should hold on to it when it’s not even in God’s plan. Everything is not worth fighting for. LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE UNHAPPY! We have to live an intentional life in this season. I look back over my life at some of the material things I tried to hold on too and also people and God didn’t bless me with better until I released it & them. Sometimes when going through a storm, you have to sit back and be silent and ask God, ok, you have my attention and I’m ready to do YOUR will and not mine! Maybe that business plan is not working because that’s not God’s will for you! We all have a purpose but YOU have to stop thinking you can do it on your own because you CANNOT! I need GOD! We need GOD! Someone right now has a broken heart that man or woman left you and you are trying to heal! But if you knew your worth, you would lift your head and smile and say God makes no mistakes. God allows us to go through certain things to get our attention. I needed to be evicted 3 times so I could learn how to fix my credit and manage my finances. I needed to be cheated on and lied to so I could love my self more and really know my worth. I needed to be laid off from that job so I could walk in my God-given purpose and own multiple businesses. So, don’t think your storm will last always it’s preparing you for your testimony.
