Today we’d like to introduce you to Marvin Howell, OD.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Marvin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I received my Bachelors in Electrical Engineering and after working for 3 years, I realized that I was not happy with my career. I decided to take a chance and go back to school to become a Doctor of Optometry. It was a great decision. When I graduated I worked at a private practice and a large corporate optical chain for a few years but I always knew there was something more that I could do. In January of 2015 while newly married and with a baby on the way, I decided to take a new venture and Start my own practice. I know it was a challenge but I had faced obstacles before and I knew I could handle it. Today, I have 2 Doctors and 6 Techs who work for me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the obstacles that I faced were many. In optometry school, they teach you how to be a good clinician but there is a lot more that you need to know when running a business. On a daily basis, I deal with things like filing claims, employee relations and technology upgrades in addition to seeing 12 to 15 or more patients.

Marvin Howell, OD and Associates is a full service optometric practice. We treat anything from routine nearsightedness or farsightedness to red eyes, glaucoma evaluation, macular degeneration and diabetic eye exams. We also work with the best eye surgeons in the Atlanta area who perform Lasik and Cataract surgery. We have two convenient locations to serve you – one inside For Eyes Optical in East Cobb (Marietta) and the other inside For Eyes Optical in Sandy Springs.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I would have to say my proudest moment was making the decision to venture out on my own without knowing if I would be successful. I am happy to report that every year I have had significant growth and have a developed a consistent patient following.
