Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Ficken.
Matt, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Vinings, Georgia and grew up in Dunwoody. I graduated from Woodward Academy in 2005; while I was there I was the Captain of the Wrestling Team, and I played football and threw the discus on the track team. Many of the friends that I made there are still in my network today, and I’m currently involved in activities at the Academy including philanthropy efforts and as well as the Board of Directors as the Board’s Secretary.
I graduated from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide) in May 2009 with honors and as the president of the Beta Theta Pi chapter. From there I took my first job at the world’s largest Commercial Real Estate technology company. I started my own technology company partnering with an Israeli startup for several years called Power Gateway.
Following this, I began selling technology solutions and services to SMBs in the Atlanta area which blossomed into an opportunity to sell Content Management solutions and services in the Enterprise space.
Today, I advise Small Business Owners on their Human Capital Management solutions and services via Insperity.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am very grateful for my life today. I think I have had a very smooth road when I hear about others’ struggles; however, several events in my early to mid-twenties has made me realize how damaging an oversized ego and money-focused life can be. Focusing your attention on being of service to others is a way around many of the struggles we encounter on our path.
My biggest struggle has been getting out of the way of my own success.
Insperity – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m known for my ability to connect people in the business community in the Atlanta area. I have been in sales and sold to so many different verticals that I seem to know someone everywhere which is perfect for my current role as a Small Business Advisor at Insperity.
I help Small Business Owners stop working in their business and get back to working on their business.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I was recently awarded the Fast Start Award at the Insperity Sales Convention. It was the culmination of my first year’s work with the company and very few new Business Advisors achieve the designation.
