Meet Matthew Powell and Stephanie Cintron of On The Go aka OTG in Savannah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Powell and Stephanie Cintron.

Matthew and Stephanie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We initially wanted to work together as a photographer/videographer duo, so Matt did what any fresh newbie would do and spent thousands of dollars on equipment. Christmas of 2019 his car was broken into and all of his equipment was stolen. It was then where we pivoted and fell into OTG, an athleisure and lifestyle company. We were familiar with the clothing industry from our past experiences, but we knew we could make it better. People want to find their best selves in this chaotic noisy world, and we want to help people do just that by providing our community with styles that fuel their confidence and ambitions. Our first launch was on March 29th and was a massive success. We sold out of all of our inventory! Our next drop was completely opposite. Covid-19 affected us and all of our vendors. No one wrote a playbook on how to start a business in the middle of a pandemic. So, we did the only thing we knew how, and that was to be completely transparent and show up for our freshly-found community. Because of them, we were able to bounce back and continue to provide relentless motivation through new collections. Today, we are constantly looking for ways to provide value for our growing community.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We thought our biggest hurdle was trying to grow in the middle of a global pandemic. We have such a high standard when it comes to selling our athleisure and the next thing, we knew our vendors were shutting down, inventory was lost in shipping, and deliveries were delayed for weeks. However, we quickly found out that our biggest challenges weren’t just those, it was also finding our crusade. We had to find out why. In wake of recent events, we took time to look inward and focus on how we could provide a bigger layer of wellbeing for our community. We had a platform and we weren’t scared to use it. Now, each launch our community helps us choose a charity/organization to donate a portion of sales to. We continue to look at ourselves in the mirror and we know the first step to bettering ourselves is to better those around us. The road is bumpy but we are focused on the smooth roads ahead.

On The Go aka OTG – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
OTG was created with the single idea of giving both men and women confidence. We do that by providing a line of comfortable, wearable, athleisure styles that you can easily throw on and conquer your day. We are known for our on-trend athletic wear that doesn’t break the bank. We’re most proud of our community because we get to follow their journey and watch them grow into their best selves. What sets us apart is how we go out of our way to really get to know our people. From our handwritten notes to hyping them up on Instagram, we want them to know how much we love and appreciate them.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Matt: Bottom of the 7th, two outs, and I was pitching for our 12-year-old summer baseball team. On the next pitch. the batter hit a ground ball to end the game. We were the newly crowned champions at the World Series in Kingsport, TN, but that’s not the best part. The best part was walking out of the gates and hugging my parents. My dad gave me the most prideful hug I’d ever felt, then my mom with a hug nothing short of what only a mother’s love feels like. It’s my best memory because it reminds me of how much I look back and appreciate all of the money, energy, and time they poured into me as a kid. I’m forever grateful for them.

Steph: 6th grade, a week before tryouts, I decided I was going to be a cheerleader. I hadn’t cheered a day in my life and I had just gotten my braces put on. I stumbled my way through the first day of clinic but the next day, I woke up feeling sick. Turns out I had strep throat. I missed the next two days of clinic and only had one day left to learn a dance, three cheers, and how the heck to do a pike. The day of tryouts came around and I almost didn’t go. I was sure I wasn’t going to make the cut. But my mom got me in the car and drove me to the gym, and boy, I’m glad she did. Brace face, strep throat-having Steph made the team and went on to cheer for the next seven years. This is my favorite memory because it reminds me that even when the odds may seem stacked against you, with people who believe in you and a little bit of hard work, anything is possible.
