Meet Maya Igbinovia of 7Greetings in Lithonia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Igbinovia.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been a creative/ crafty person, ever since I was a little child. Something about arts and crafts always excited me! I will never forget my dad and I entered a school contest to build a birdhouse when I was in grade school and we won! It was right then and there that I knew how interested in creating something from nothing was a passion of mine. As I grew older, I fell in love with writing poems and making greeting cards. While working at my first job in 9th grade, I had an opportunity to create a happy birthday card for a former coworker. She was so annoyed that she couldn’t find the perfect card for her perfect person. I assured her that we will make him something nice and she allowed me to put my creativity to work. It was the definition of handmade card back then, lol. I didn’t have many resources just a piece of paper, pencil and my creativity. We sat there at work as she told me how she felt about him. I transcribed her words into a poem. It was my very first card and I felt so accomplished. It wasn’t Hallmark or American Greetings but that day, in that moment a dream was formed. I started my business on June 7th, 2017. I initially started out with just greeting cards but since then, I’ve evolved into so much more.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Wheeeew, smooth? I wouldn’t say that! But it has definitely been rewarding. I would say having GOD and a solid support team has made everything worthwhile. My most common struggle would be finding time to fulfill orders while working a full-time job. I appreciate all of my customers who understand my process of creating and designing, and I assure them that one day, I will be in a position to dedicate myself full time to my customers who entrust me to bring their visions to fruition.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about 7Greetings – what should we know?
7Greetings is a creative studio where I specialize in stationery and party crafts. I create, design and print greetings cards, invitations, menus, business cards, marketing materials, barbie boxes, party crafts and so much more! I’m mostly known for my creative abilities when it comes to paper and my signature graphic designs. I am most proud of how my company has flourished and expanded in such a short amount of time. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t limit myself to one thing, I allow my customers to give me their vision and from there, I create based on what they want with a twist to make it all come together.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Oh my! I’ve had so much help along the way. First and foremost GOD for using me as a vessel to help create memories for people around the world. Next would be my High School mentor and fellow creative Sharra Speer of Style is the Cure. She has helped and guided me like no other when it comes to my business journey and I couldn’t thank her enough. My mom, Sandra, my brothers, James and Kevin, my sister Shaquanda, my best friends Erika and Quanshella for their support and encouragement and most importantly, my CUSTOMERS! Without them, there would be no 7Greetings.
