Meet Michelle Gregory of K&M Closet in Savannah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Gregory.

Michelle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born and raised in Savannah, GA I always had a passion for fashion. I Always had girls come up to me and ask me where did I get my outfit from or could I help them find an outfit for the next event coming to the city. I did that for a while free of charge, but I wanted to do something different. I wanted to have something to where I didn’t haft to wait 3-4 days for there outfits to arrive so I sat down on my lunch break last year and came up with K&M Closet. I am coming up on my one year anniversary in service and for our one year anniversary, we are opening a location on April 20, 2019. We still we offer online access, but I will have an actual storefront where women can come, try on their outfits and just have a place where they can come and relax after a hard day at work.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The retail business has it’s up’s and Down. My main struggle I had was when I 1st started. I wanted to do Handbags so I found a vendor. The handbags picture was great everything, but when I received them the bags didn’t look anything like the pictures. I had to refund over $200 to people who pre-ordered because if I don’t like the quality or the outcome when it comes, I won’t sell it. Also keeping up with the latest trends and marketing. When I do my photo shoots now, I tell my girls I don’t care how good you look or how perfect your body is, you are selling the clothes. I struggle with that, in the beginning, trying to find the right models that will bring my clothes to life.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about K&M Closet – what should we know?
K&M Closet is a women/men clothing boutique. I specialize in women clothing, handbags, and shoes. I also sell men clothing jeans, shorts T-shirt’s and track suite as well. I am known for my unique style and my love and respect I have for my customers. I might be the boss, but my customer are who makes my business go round everyday. What makes me so proud because I set the tone for women and also men to have an affordable place to shop. What sets me apart from other boutique is that I’m not in competition with anyone. I put my customer wants and need first.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My daughter. She is the “K” in K&M Closet which stands for Kionna. It feels good to have a business for my daughter so when she grows up, she can take over the business. When you look at when my days I want to give up I just tell myself I can’t because I’m doing this for you. She tell me how proud she is of me, but also trying to keep every piece of inventory that comes in. My mom as well. She let me run my business from out of her house for a while year. I turned my old room in my work area. I had customers come Day and night back and forth out of her door and not one time did she complain because she knew this was my passion and I love what I do and that’s to make women feel beautiful and make men feel they the flyest.
