Meet Misty and Faith Baird of Brownies by Faith in Cornelia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty and Faith Baird.

Misty and Faith, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
On January 8th, 1998 my husband and I delivered our second child at 28 weeks. She came into this world weighing 15 ounces and 10 and 1/4 inches long. From that day we have faced many challenges. One of our greatest concerns with the passing years was Faith having somewhere she belonged and would be accepted for her own special contributions. When Faith was in her Junior year of high school, I would ask her what she wanted to do when she graduated. She would always respond that she wanted to bake. After graduation, I asked her what exactly she wanted to bake and she said brownies! I then asked her who was going to work for her and her response was, “you are mom!” On October 14th, 2017 we stepped into the kitchen for the first time together to see if she would enjoy baking. She immediately fell in love with the process of baking brownies and I fell in love with the fact that it was something that we could work on together. Two days after that we created our Facebook page to see what kind of response we would get from our community. The response was completely overwhelming. Our family, friends, and our community fell in love with our brownies and our passion. Two years later on October 18th, 2019 we held our grand opening of our brownie shop. The outpouring of love from our community still leaves me and our family in awe. We are open every Friday in our little corner of the world, making Habersham County sweeter, one brownie at a time.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of our biggest obstacles was having this big dream that required a big budget, that we did not have. I began to research what our options may be to operate as a home-based business. I discovered the Department of Agriculture’s website and came across the Cottage Food Establishment License. My heart leapt for joy. For the first time, I realized that this dream could be a reality. The next day I began making phone calls to put together a plan of action. We slowly, one requirement at a time, checked the list off. Then one day, before we knew it we were officially Brownies by Faith LLC. One brownie order at a time we began to grow. Working 100% from home began to be a comfort zone for us. I felt we needed to be challenged and work for more exposure. This is when we decided to open a storefront. There was one little building in Cornelia that always came to my mind when I would think about us opening. We met with the owners of the building Jay and Kim Reed who owned Creekside Cleaners next to this building. We approached them with the idea we had to open our shop in their building and they were immediately on board. The transition has not been easy and we have already faced growing pains, but we are looking forward to the challenge.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Brownies by Faith story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in homemade brownies. We started with just our original brownie. We then began to experiment with different flavors. We now have our original, peanut butter, red velvet, German chocolate, pumpkin, and humming bird brownies. We take pride in the love and care we put into each batch of brownies. Because we have all lived in Habersham County our entire lives, this community has become more like family, this is an aspect of our business that we are proud of. What sets us apart is our specialization in brownies. We do not just want to bake good brownies, we want to bake great brownies.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We do not view the things that we have accomplished as mere luck. We view it as hard work, dedication, and blessings. We believe there is a reason for everything and greater good to all that happens.
