Meet North East Atlanta Stylist: Jameela Pitts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jameela Pitts.

Jameela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
So I basically grew up in the salon. After landing in GA, my first stop was the salon lol. My parents owned one in Alpharetta. A week after high school I went to the beauty school at Atlanta tech. I graduated in 2010 and have been in this journey every since. I’ve worked for amazing companies such as supercuts, Carols Daughters mirror salon and Loop salon all in Atlanta,Ga which definitely helped me along the way.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, the road has not always been easy. Starting off I had to trust my talents. Learn how to find the balance of stylist/ artist and still give my clients control over exactly what it is that they want. Constructive criticism and dealing with different personalities daily was something else for me lol But I’ve learned to love it. The struggle never ends with progression there’s always something new to learn.

How would you describe the type of kid you were growing up?
Lol growing up…. I would say I was friendly around 6th grade. I’ve always been an extreme introvert with some extrovert qualities once I got warmed up. I loved dancing, cheerleading and hanging out with the three close friends I had but I would much rather chill out watch movies that were based in places like sunny California or Manhattan, NY. It did something to me. I can’t totally explain the feeling but I loved those moments.

Is there a specific memory from when you were younger that you really miss?
I have so many great memories from childhood. One of my favorites was when my mom would organize her makeup and perfumes she would give me all her old stuff … I swear I felt like I went shopping. Another is growing up in the salon with my step mother. I felt so proud and amazed by her work. The dedication and diligence are something that has stuck with me over the years. Every other Saturday I was there and during the summer everyday shampooing, folding towels, basing for relaxers. You couldn’t tell me I wasn’t going to work lol and she surely did pay me.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
O yes, I actually got butterflies thinking about the future. I plan on definitely spreading my wings and really making a positive impact on my community and the lives of women in general. Not only through styling hair Bt through my story. I think when God is all done with me people will know that it could have only been a higher power. FRESH new beginnings and new endeavors. I think I’m gonna go for it with my YouTube page I definitely have something to show and tell and I’m sure people will love to watch and listen.
