Meet Obreziah Bullard of Law Offices of McGuire & Bullard in McDonough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Attorney Obréziah Bullard.

Obréziah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I like to describe myself as a small-town country girl, living her dream in the big city. I am originally from Montezuma, Georgia, but was raised primarily in Fort Valley (Peach County), Georgia. Anyone who knows anything about that area knows that Fort Valley, also referred to as Middle Georgia, is known for two things – FOOTBALL and PEACHES. While growing up, I aspired to be either a Pediatrician or an Attorney. I did not know which route I wanted to go but knew I wanted to help children. As I matured, I naturally began defending or advocating for those who were reserved, unlikely to speak up for themselves, or were too scared to do so. I had no problem advocating my position and theirs too. My mother would frequently tell me, “Your gift is in your mouth, but you have to learn how to tame it.” Of course, this was typically after an attempt to advocate for myself to do something I was not allowed to do. Being the judge, jury and executor—my mother always won those arguments. Nevertheless, I continued to fight, and fight became a part of me, so did the drive to become an attorney.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth ride. During my senior year of college, I became pregnant with my oldest daughter. Many people told me that the possibility of law school post pregnancy was essentially a joke. I would never be able to keep up with the studies nor pass a bar exam while being the primary caretaker of my daughter. I was given the hard option to choose between my daughter and my dream career. I CHOSE BOTH! With the help of my family and my then boyfriend (now husband of ten years), I attended law school, graduated early, passed the bar on the first time, and opened my own law firm.

Please tell us about Law Offices of McGuire & Bullard.
I established B Bullard Law Firm, LLC, in 2013 with the goal of helping fathers fight for their families. I wanted to help restore broken families or minimize the probability of a family becoming broken. In 2018, I merged my McDonough-based firm with my mentor, Atlanta-based attorney James “Jim” D. McGuire, formerly of The Law Offices of McGuire & Crohan. Jim and I now serve as co-managing partners of the firm, The Law Offices of McGuire & Bullard.

We are a family law firm focusing on divorce, custody, visitation and child support. I have a niche in that I know and understand the importance that fathers play in the role of families and strive to help afford every father the legal rights they need for their children. However, we are not exclusive to fathers. We also represent mothers and caretakers as well. Our overall goal is family focused. Additionally, I am a part-time Special Assistant Attorney General for Clayton County’s Department of Family and Children Services, where I represent the State in child deprivation cases. At our firm, our clients are not just another case or number. With over forty years of experience between the partners, we personalize each and every case using clear goals of the client and crafting a case plan tailored to achieve those specific goals. We are Experience Led, Solution Driven, and Quality Rated. I am proud that we have maintained a firm that is not only respected in the community but is highly regarded amongst our peers and clients. The firm has allowed me to expand serving my community through the B Bullard Law Firm Scholarship, and serve on the Board of Directors for Haven House, a domestic violence shelter.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, the only thing I would do differently is fail faster in the solo law firm growth process. Graduating from law school, you are taught how to practice law, but you are not taught how to run a business, there were many failures turned lessons in this process. It was not easy growing a law firm without a business background. The fear of failure won frequently. I now understand that “failing” is a part of growth, and the quicker I fail, the quicker I, and my business, can grow. My current success is a product of those valuable experiences.
