Meet Photographer & Owner of Dollhouse Beauty Bar: Cheynel Farrar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheynel Farrar.

Cheynel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started taking pictures five years ago with a borrowed camera. My friend was a photographer and I followed him around on shoots and borrowed one of his cameras to go off and learn it. I have bought my own camera and have a photography company(Cheynel Photography), a photo booth service. I recently opened my own beauty bar to incorporate makeup, teeth whitening, lash extensions etc. to my photography team. We are a one stop shop.

Has it been a smooth road?
No! Not at all. Struggles were opening a business with no knowledge of opening a business. Of course I took classes, went to seminars etc. but none of them explain what all the ins and out of advertising, taxes, how to pay your people, what to pay, how much insurance you need and that just because you have an LLC that will not cover you completely in the Beauty business.

What were you like growing up?
I was a very sociable child. Artistic, very outgoing, love to talk and make jokes.

What is your favorite childhood memory?
Going to my grandfather’s house in the country (Alabama). He had a farm and we use to name the chickens & play with the chickens. Then we start to notice that we were eating them too. lol. Traumatizing as a child. We had to pick peas and wash the corn because they would sometimes have worms in them. As a child we hated it but now I know it taught us valuable lessons.

So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
My plans for the future is to get more into my creative side. I have so many ideas in my head that I do not export out. I also want my beauty bar to be self-sufficient. I want to also start giving photography classes & mentor to high school students that want to pursue photography/art as a career. I have an 18 yr old son that wants to do media & design so I plan to help him open his studio as well.
