Meet Queen Mitchell of The Queen Network in East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Queen Mitchell.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Queen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I had a camera in my hand since I was a little girl. My grandmother is a photographer and she always took me to different events with her. Watching her take pictures of everyone and asking me to take pictures of her well… the camera literally fell into my hands. I began to purchase cameras out of Walgreens and then my mom or Gma (don’t remember which one) bought me a camera. I took pictures of everything. It was a hobby for me. During high school, I began to learn that photography is a lucrative business. I was not only taking pictures I was capturing video as well. Now, none of this was professional; it was all for fun. When I got into college, I was nominated for communications club for two years and in that position, I began to use my skills to help others and also practice more on a professional level.

I took a news reporting class in college, though I knew I did not want to be in front of a camera that class confirmed it. I started taking my craft more serious. I began to love video more. I created a visual newsletter for my college campus called “MCVN” it was my first “production”. This program informed students and faculty members of upcoming events and news on campus. That’s when I discovered my niche in production it was pleasant for me. After graduating with my Bachelors in Electronic and Visual management at Miles College in Birmingham, AL. I gave myself a year to find a career in my field. I wanted to use my degree but everyone stated: “I need more experience”. A year passed and I was unsuccessful with finding a career in my field. So I did my research and discovered California, New York, and Atlanta was the right place to be in the film/production industry. As a recent college graduate, the only one I could afford was Atlanta. Also, I had family there. So I packed my stuff and drove to Atlanta.

Of course, the first year did not go as planned had three jobs, no car, staying with family and not living the life I planned. In 2017, I got my own apartment and car and began working for a photography company. Five months after employment I was promoted to assistant manager, I enjoyed the work I was doing for this company but, It was very time consuming and I couldn’t work towards my dreams of being in the film industry. I started doing Uber part time and then full time. Uber gave me the opportunity to create my own schedule and also network with different people. March 2018 I purchased my LLC for my business. I am currently in post-production for the short film “LEG·ER·DE·MAIN” directed by me and possibly a featured film soon. I still take pictures and capture video but my ultimate goal is to have my own television network. THE QUEEN NETWORK. I am a full-time filmmaker and enjoy every moment of it!

Has it been a smooth road?
Noooo, not smooth at all. Things did not go as planned when I moved here. I was not aware of the lack of public transportation in Georgia. I got hired for a position in downtown Atlanta and at the time I was staying in Snellville. The amount I was paying to get to work would become my half of my check and it was not worth the expense. So I had to pick a job nearby to get on my feet and hopefully get my own place. I had two jobs at the time all walking distance and absolutely nothing to do with photography. I did that for about seven months. There are still challenges now when I think about applying for a job just to have that stability but entrepreneurship is so much better.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Queen Network story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a photographer, editor, cinematographer, and director. I specialize in directing and know for photography. I am most proud of my company producing our first short film” leg·er·de·main”. It was an amazing production and I can call it a “TQN PRODUCTION”. I believe there are few genuine people out there that care more about others than themselves when it comes to their craft. To make sure everyone involved is having an enjoyable experience sets me apart from others and my lovable personality. 🙂

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Definitely will be similar to the movie iRobot.
