Meet Rachael Ann Gliebe of R.A.G.artistry in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Ann Gliebe.

Rachael Ann, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I believe photography is more about that decisive moment that we take as photographers through our lens. Patience and practice is what allows artistry. Though I have a flare for fashion and a degree in commercial photography, I feel photojournalism is what binds my style and makes it perfect for the story telling of whomever steps into my vision. Though my first camera was given to me on my 16th birthday I didn’t really get into photography until after high school as a hobby. At the time I was told by my current employer, that I had a natural eye for photography and should pursue it. I remember chuckling when thinking “how could anyone make a living doing such an awesome thing?! It wasn’t till 2008 that I began to dive into the world of digital photography and decided to attend school to get my degree in commercial photography at the Art Institute of Atlanta in 2011. They say everyone has their “niche”, well I shot my first South Asian wedding in the summer of 2012, went full time into my photography business in 2013 and graduated in 2014. I am blessed to say that I get flown around the world to capture weddings now and have a blast doing what I absolutely love and am extremely passionate about! I also work with a lot of local magazine such as Jezebel and Modern Luxury and do commercial work for several jewelry companies in Miami. It’s a blast and I’m blessed to do what I do, day in and day out!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing about being an artist is ever smooth or easy. It is something that I work at every day. To get better every day. Art is so subjective, so you have to realize what’s considered in demand, while also keeping true to your style and brand. The hardest thing is to be told you’re not good enough, for me that has only fueled me to continue to perfect my craft verses turn from it. Passion plays a lot into being consistent for me. I love what I do! So for every rejection I’ve experienced with work in the past it has only helped me bounce back stronger as an artist. I welcome criticism because it only helps me grow. I had to fight hard to get to where I am today, money was a struggle, school was a struggle, but I never allowed it to control my excitement for what I loved doing. Today that same drive and passion has done wonders for me and I am beyond blessed!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
R.A.G.artistry was the name I came up with years ago for two reasons; one I wanted my name in the title, so Rachael Ann Gliebe was implemented in the structure of the company. Two I wanted it to be words that made us stand out in style so it also means radiant, alive and genuine. I started the company back in 2004, while shooting film. By 2010 we went completely digital and in 2014 I went full time into the photography industry, mainly thriving on my new found niche of the South Asian Wedding market. I now not only shoot all different types of weddings, but I also shoot in the commercial and corporate world. We have about 4 people on staff now and several different companies we collaborate with often. We are most known throughout the Indian culture for our wedding style and how we capture their week long events moment by moment. I also have started a personal project shooting fitness inspiration. My goal is to eventually shoot for Nike within the next year or so. I would say I am most proud of the consistency, professionalism and style. It stands out from the majority and we believe it shows because of how passionate I am. The color and high contrast of my images and style of editing is what I believe sets me apart, but to have the right eye and unique workmanship is everything!

What were you like growing up?
I was extremely artist, so my parents say. My mom says from the time I could walk and talk I loved picking out clothing, styles, shoes etc…Everything had to match. As soon as I could pick up a pen or paint brush I was drawing and making art. By the time I hit 15 I could play the guitar, drums and piano. So I’ve always had an eye and passion for art, in many forms. I love being around people, events and anything to do with creativity.
