Today we’d like to introduce you to Raven Greene.
Raven, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Raven B. Greene. I was born and raised in Charleston, SC. I started to fall in love with photography at a young age. I was in 5th grade when I decided that I wanted to become a photographer so I got my first camera in middle school. I enjoyed being behind the camera and creating memories with friends and family. It was almost my getaway. I grew up really shy so it was hard to express how I truly felt because I always fear getting judged by family and friends but when I started shooting, I could express myself without using words. I enjoyed seeing everyone pose for me and post my work even until today. I am grateful for how far I came as being a photographer.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. I had a lot of people tell me I wasn’t good enough or my work wasn’t all that. I used to get really emotional about my work because I’m very sensitive on it. I never gave up, especially when people told me that photography wasn’t going to pay the bills. I pushed myself to learn more about photography and learn how to do better angles while taking a photograph. I’m just proud of myself for never giving up.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the New Moon Visuals story. Tell us more about your work.
New Moon Visuals is my heart and soul. I always wanted to be a creative photographer because I love art and I love doing things that most people don’t think about. I wanted to stand out from all the photographers in my city. I wanted my photos to tell stories and my goal was to let people feel something from my art. I love to connect with people on different levels so once people started loving my work, I knew my job was done. I love having people from Atlanta and other places come to work with me.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The role of luck for my business was getting exposure from people I never thought would like my style of photography. Recently my photo was featured in TIME magazine. It got me a lot of following and other big companies started reposting my work and giving me shoutouts: Afropunk, Girl Gaze, Crwn Magazine and the list continues. Forever grateful for everything and I cannot wait time to see what else is in store for my business.
