Riggs, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Atlanta native, Riggs, is a master mixologist who has taken his love for mixology and used it to establish R|HAUS, beverage service and consulting company. Previously a body piercing artist/manager of a tattoo shop, Riggs has always known that his career would be focused around intimate interactions with a specialized clientele. Years ago, after leaving the body artistry world behind, Riggs began working as a paralegal for a boutique law firm established by Atlanta legend, Donald Lee Hollowell. While at the firm, Riggs took on a side gig as a barback/bar assistant at the former nightclub, Quad, working one day per week. During his brief tenure as a barback, Riggs was captivated by the fast pace environment of the nightclub business, so much so, that when the opportunity presented itself, he seized the chance to stand in as bartender when a scheduled employee called out sick. And, as the adage goes, the rest was history.
Riggs established himself as the best bartender in the building and eventually earned the role of bar manager after only one year. After serving as a bar manager for two years, Riggs left the nightclub arena to try his hand at restaurants. Once again starting from the bottom, Riggs began working as a barback at the restaurant Negril Village and climbing his way to being named 2017 Employee of the Year (the last employee to receive the accolade) and Lead Bartender. It was at this moment when Riggs indeed became interested in mixology. He studied and researched craft mixology, and began experimenting with various ingredients and spirits behind the bar while at work. This self-taught curriculum led Riggs to multiple workshops and competitions that afforded him the necessary knowledge and experience needed to service the needs of others. Thus, R|HAUS was born.
Now, Riggs has left the law firm to focus on growing R|HAUS and its beverage services. From small bars to large restaurants and everything in between, R|HAUS has provided custom cocktail recipes, full bar menus, education, training, and more to various clients around the city. Mainly operating from word-of-mouth referrals, Riggs has established and maintained an organic grassroots following that he takes genuine pride in being able to satisfy through his unique and innovative approach to beverage services.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The entrepreneurial journey of founding R|HAUS has not been an easy road. Everyone knows that everything doesn’t go as planned. The plan for R|HAUS has been a work in progress that adapts to the everyday challenges of entrepreneurship. The food & beverage industry is one of the most challenging arenas to enter and has the most failures within the first 12 months of business. So, it has been an uphill battle to get R|HAUS off the ground, but with each obstacle hurdled comes to a sense of accomplishment and fuel to continue onward.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Riggs lives by the “Fisherman’s Philosophy” that his uncle taught him, which promotes the idea that a true fisherman begins his journey digging for worms, then using those worms to catch small fish, then using those small fish as bait to catch bigger fish, and so on and so on until the fisherman catches a fish big enough to feed not only his family but the entire village. For Riggs, his ground-up start represents the fisherman digging for worms in order to catch small fish; now, it’s time to catch the big fish. Riggs utilizes R|HAUS as a platform to catapult his career to larger arenas, including but not limited to franchising bar concepts for hotel chains around the world.
