Meet Robin Reneau of Georgia Auto Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Reneau.

Robin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in poverty in NYC and relocated to Atlanta when I was 18. I began a career as an office assistant at a doctor’s office, the money was good and could support my growing family, but it wasn’t until I became a single mom and began having car problems that sparked an interest that ignited a flame. After losing thousands in buying lemons and overpaying for car repairs, I decided I wanted to learn enough about cars, so I would not be taken advantage of. The thirst for knowledge led to my passion for automotive. I left my office job and pursued a degree in automotive technology and began to thrive in my new career. Having spent time in corporations and in independent shops, I was never satisfied with the service customers received especially women and seniors. I leveraged my power as much as I could to change the status quo but only made temporary dents in a huge problem. When Covid shut the world down and I was laid off, I stepped out on faith, branded myself Rob The Blonde Mechanic and started a mobile car repair business that was wildly successful. Ten months later, I was moving into my own building and opened Georgia Auto Solutions.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have definitely faced a lot of challenges and setbacks in my life and career. I was a high school dropout, teen mom, welfare recipient and at one time a single mom. Out of the gate, the odds were against me. I was bright and gifted but circumstances prohibited me from reaching my full potential so I thought. One day I just got tired of being sick and tired, tired of being broke, busted and disgusted. I thought surely there is more to life than just working to pay bills. At the same time, I was struggling with keeping transportation to get back and forth. I would put my whole tax return on purchasing a car for cash since I knew I could not afford a car note. A month later I was on the side of the road car needed an engine. I spent too much time and money on cars and would end up back on the bus. I was at my breaking point. I decided I would give it my all and learn about cars to stop being a victim and I was going to soar in my career. I would work harder, stay later whatever it took to get to the top. It paid off, I started my career making $500 a week to a six-figure salary before opening my own business. Professional challenges were harder than my personal struggles. I was a black woman in a white male-dominated industry and I’m in the south. Dealing with sexism from customers and colleagues was extremely difficult, all I wanted to do was slap a few folks, I couldn’t I needed my job and didn’t have bail money. Dealing with racism from people that controlled my paycheck enraged me. I felt like a modern-day slave. I knew if I complained, I would lose my job. I just kept telling myself one day I won’t need this job until then take all of that anger and pain and go hard to where they can’t deny me. Regardless of how they felt they had to respect my hustle, undisputedly I produced.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What brings you happiness?
It’s cliché but helping others. I love to educate, inform and empower people about their current vehicle or buying options for a new vehicle. I enjoy teaching them how to maintain and service their vehicle. I get elated when I send a job offer because I know I am giving someone the opportunity to learn a skill that will always be in demand. I love to see people grow in their careers and coaching them. I smile every time I pull out my debit card to pay for groceries even with inflation, just being able to afford to feed my family. But most of all my happiness comes from my peace. Peace of mind allows me to be free and love me, I am dancing to the beat of my own drum for once in my life and it is amazing.
