Meet Robyn Cerra of Honeycomb Beauty in Northern Atlanta Suburbs-Kennesaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Cerra.

Robyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story begins at Van Michael Salon. The first time my mom took me to get a “real” haircut. I was in high school and the salon made a HUGE impact on me! Everyone looked so cool and were having fun while they worked! That is the moment I decided to become a hairdresser. I went on to graduate from the Aveda Institute and work for the very salon that put me on the path to hairdressing. I worked at Van Michael Salon for ten years, specializing in hair color. I loved my time there, but I was ready for something new. I had a new daughter and I wanted to teach her that girls can do anything, include own their own business!

I started working as an independent stylist in 2017. Working in Marietta meant that I had more time to spend with my daughter, Blake, and build a business I could be proud of!

Has it been a smooth road?
Oh, there have definitely been struggles along the way! Being close to home was amazing, but running a new business meant more than just showing up for appointments. Putting time into my business meant that I had to be strategic about my schedule. My marriage was already struggling, ultimately ending in divorce. But throughout everything my business has remained strong, and getting stronger every single day! I love being able to show my daughter that working hard has big benefits! Hearing her tell everyone she meets that her mommy owns a salon is pretty special!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Honeycomb Beauty story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in custom hair color and hand-tied extensions. I am known for my blondes! I love creating a custom blend for my clients! I take my clients through an extensive consultation to find the perfect color for each person. Hair color is not a one size fits all service.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see “Lived-in” hair color sticking around for a while. Clients love the extra wear they are getting from their color. Also soft textures like beach waves. I’m seeing a very California vibe taking over the hair scene.

Hair extensions are also seeing a surge in popularity, not just for long mermaid hair, but for volume as well. Extensions can be affordable when added for volume to create something like a modern shag or lob!
