Meet Sabrina Clark of The Bri Spot in North Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Clark.

Sabrina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a passion for fashion which stems from a young age. As my style evolved over the years, many of my close friends and family would always compliment me on my outfits, makeup, and hairstyles. One day a friend said to me, you should start a blog, and I thought to myself that is a GREAT idea! Once that seed was planted in my head, I decided I would go for it and began working on my blog/brand The Bri Spot after I finished my pediatric residency. My blog launched on January 1st, 2018 and has been steadily growing ever since.

I decided to call my blog and brand The Bri Spot because I didn’t want to box myself or my content into only one category. Bri is my nickname given to me by close family and friends, and that is how I see my followers as a part of the family. I wanted to create a space for me to be creative and incorporate all of my passions with an emphasis on fashion catering to the curvy/plus-size woman.

My professional background may not be what you would expect for a fashionista. I love science and health and always dreamed of being a doctor. With this goal in mind, I choose to focus on the sciences while in school. I attended undergrad at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA where I majored in Biology. However, being an artsy girl, I also wanted to continue to stimulate my creative side, so I also dibbled and dabbled in the arts taking classes like photography and sculpture. I later attended medical and business school through pursuing a dual degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Saint Joseph’s University School of Business. After graduating, I relocated to Atlanta, GA where I completed my residency training in pediatrics at Morehouse School of Medicine.

Currently my full-time job is practicing pediatric primary care in Atlanta, Georgia. When I am not working or blogging, some of my joys and past times include working on creative projects in various fields such as photography, graphic design, and interior design along with other crafty things. I also enjoy shopping, cooking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Starting a blog and brand is not easy! The influencer and blogging industry is so saturated these days making it really tough to stand out in the crowd. I think what helps is really knowing your audience. I know the woman I represent because I am her. Staying true to myself and being honest with my followers is what helps me stand out.

Another obstacle I faced was simply starting! I delayed my launch several times because I wanted everything to be perfect, but there is no such thing! You just have to accept that; step out on faith and simply start, which is what I had to push myself to do. It has been a process and I am learning and trying to improve my platform daily. Balancing a full-time career as a physician and managing my brand is a lot to juggle. I try to schedule photoshoots and content production around my busy schedule of seeing patients, and I do my best to stay as consistent as I can with posting and engaging my audience.

Please tell us about The Bri Spot.
The Bri Spot was created as a platform for me to encourage, inspire, and empower women of all shapes and sizes to follow their dreams, live their most fulfilling life, to seek happiness in everything that they do, and to look good while doing it! I create content for women like myself addressing issues we deal with everyday such as finding clothes that fit a curvy frame, styling looks, beauty hacks, fashion inspiration, and sharing my day to day life. Majority of what I am most known for and what has been one of the most successful part of my brand is fashion base content, so I focus a lot on fashion, styling looks, and creating an ideal wardrobe as a plus size/curvy girl.

What sets me apart, I would say is my sense of style. The foundation of my style is to always keep it classy while also incorporating trends and being creative with my looks. If I had to describe myself in one sentence, I probably would say: I am a self-proclaimed Plus Size Barbie. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved wearing makeup, playing dress-up, and going out to show off my outfit of the day/night. I use fashion and makeup as an expressive tool and that has allowed me to gained the attention of many for my style, class, and confidence in my full-figured body. I am a sassy, easy-going girl with a mane of naturally thick kinky curly hair to match my fun-loving personality.

I am most proud of gaining and maintaining the trust of my following. I take pride in staying true to myself and being a role model and inspiration for the plus-size community.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Social media, influencing, and blogging is taking over the world! I definitely feel like blogging is here to stay! No matter what you want to talk about there is a niche for it in the blogging world. Bloggers and influencers are truly changing the way retailers and fashion houses advertise and communicate with customers. I see the industry growing exponentially,

When it comes to the plus-size community, we are truly creating our own space and demanding that brands not only include us but also represent us. We are recognizing our influencing power, which has really changed the way we are looked upon in the fashion industry. I only see the body positivity and inclusivity movements continuing to flourish over the next 5-10 years, and I am excited to be a part of it all.
