Meet Shaymekia Hayes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaymekia Hayes.

Hi Shaymekia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I am 29 a Gemini born and raised in Miami, FL I grew up in foster care majority of my life jump from home to home as a child I finally got in contact with my birth mom and everytime I seen her she did my hair it was kinda our thing you know. So I started to dabble and dab in doing hair braiding quick weaves I was bout 14 years old she died. When I was 13 it hit me hard I rebelled got in to trouble continue to jump from foster home to foster home lost contact with my little sister it was always us but with such a devastating lost I lost my mind.

When I turned 18 I decided to go to hair school what an epic fail dropped out I continued to do hair tried again when I was 21 I succeed finished then I was like what now I did this for my mother now what I fell back into my old ways I was going nowhere fast it wasn’t until I was about 24 I yearned for change I decided to move to GA one day of course my circumstances in Miami wasn’t that great so that was another reason I know I was meant to do so much more but with no guidance growing up I couldn’t see my potential so to try to become a better person I knew I had to change my surroundings so I left and I haven’t looked back it was the best decision I have ever made my God now I am a certified braider I sell combes lashes and wrist swatches I do hair almost seven days a week I promote self love I am body positive I can go on and on I can honestly say I got it out the mud.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not by far I use to lack a lot of self-control and self-conscience I gave up on my self plenty of times I felt as if I don’t have nobody to make proud but with a lot of self-reflection, I learn that if I let my past pave my future I will never succeed now nobody can’t tell me nothing I have self-control depression is not a big factor in my life and I try to make my self proud of my self everyday.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Ok, so about seven months ago, I officially became a braider before I was just a hairstylist now I do both I’m now for a twist but I am very versatile I am most proud of my growth I have a business license can you believe that a terrible former foster child is making a good name for herself well sometimes it still shocks me something that sets me apart from others is that I willing to try anything I’m not scared anymore with a confident mind come to a confident product.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yes, never give up do it for yourself and also remember everything you want is yours.
