Today we’d like to introduce you to Spike Lou.
Spike, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Podcasting was a way for me to stay in tune with the culture of Hip Hop. The Co-Founder and Co-Host of the OnDeckTv podcast Animal Brown and I are both from Nashville, Tn. We came to Atlanta in 2010 with hopes of growing the media company we started in Nashville. We got our feet wet with documentaries and video treatment for some artist on the popular Atlanta native TI’s record label grand hustle. That didn’t scratch the itch, so we started to commentate on the culture as fans via our podcast because we felt hip hop was missing truthful fan commentary. 6 years later and over 300 episodes in we have built a strong weekly following and created other platforms via podcast and youtube channels for commentary that address sports and fashion from fans perspective as well.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No road worth traveling is an easy one. The biggest struggle along the way, for us being fans is that we have no industry connections. We don’t have a famous ex-rapper or some music insider leading our podcast. It’s us the fans, so we the hardest parts were people getting to know us and our perspectives.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with OnDeckTv Podcast by Reelville Media – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The OnDeckTv podcast is one of three podcasts on the Reelville Media Network. At Reelville media, we want to provide commentary and content about the culture that we grew up in and that currently dominates the mainstream. Most people in our position have to protect the political connections they have in the music business we get to speak more freely and let people in on what the fan is thinking. We also cover Sports and Fashion in the same manner on the other podcast Full Sport Press and Fresh for Dummies with Animal Brown and Jai Hov. We are different cause we look at media from the cultural perspective, having the conversation that needs to be had to keep pushing the culture forward.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We plan to do more live events, and expand the network and cover more topics, Current event, politics, food, and Movies are the next topics we feel need some voices and commentary from the culture. So we are looking at linking up, creating, and working with other creators in Atlanta and Beyond. We want to be the go-to media company with a Hip Hop accent added to it.
