Today we’d like to introduce you to Synetta Hawkins.
Synetta, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Ive always had a passion for fashion, retail & modeling. My dad and Uncle gave me my first job at the age of 13 working at our families store, Hawk’s, but I got my first retail job at the age of 16 working at Hollister. For over ten years, I worked for retail companies Belk, Saks, and Hollister in customer service, sales, merchandising and management. I always visioned myself being a boss and having my own clothing store one day.
In 2016, God blessed me with the idea of POSH 31, a black and white women’s fashion online retailer. Although I had a name and created the concept of my online boutique I didn’t launch my website until January 2019. During 2016-2109, I spent time researching how to start an online store, searching for vendors, and creating POSH 31’s brand. I also gained experience on how to make sales & build a brand online by starting my own health and wellness business through a network marketing company. During this season of my life, I built a foundation for my brand and myself. I started using my gift and focused on modeling more to give myself and my brand more exposure.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No! For me, starting POSH 31 hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting a business is a complete Faith Walk. The first struggle I faced was getting started. I sat on my business for almost three years before getting started. I’m so thankful God placed someone in my life to push me to get started. Another struggle for me, especially with starting an online boutique is the start-up money. But I am proud to say I fund my boutique myself by the grace of God. Another struggle has been balancing my corporate job, being a business owner and modeling. Time management is key and that’s something I’m working on as a newbie to the entrepreneur world. Also, being consistent. When obstacles and challenges come, you have to stay focused and disciplined!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about POSH 31 – what should we know?
If I had to describe POSH 31’s brand in three words, it would be Classic, Sexy & Powerful. POSH 31 offers a variety of black and white clothing for the sophisticated socialite, boss babe, fancy fiancee, or a plain Jane looking to keep it classic and cute. What makes POSH 31 so unique is, we are a one-stop shop for all your black and white needs. Black and white outfits are appropriate for any event, from black or white parties, weddings, graduations, day parties, office parties, networking event, etc.
Black and white looks good on any woman.
The definition of Posh is elegant or stylishly luxurious. The 31 comes for Proverbs chapter 31, The Virtuous Woman. Black is powerful and white is pure.
My vision is to create a BRAND, an online shopping experience for my customers and later a storefront in Birmingham, LA, Miami, and Atlanta.
I am most proud of my 1st Glam Pop Up Sip & Shop for my Birthday in March 2019, which was a success. I was able to include female entrepreneurs from Birmingham Al in the beauty industry. POSH 31’s Glam Pop Up included fashion, hair, makeup, lashes and wine. POSH 31 isn’t just your average online boutique, we are creating a brand and experience.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important quality and characteristic of my success is a vision. “Where there is no vision, the people perish” Proverbs 29:18. The visions you have are tied to your purpose. My success, abundance, prosperity all starts with a vision. With faith, hard work, knowledge, focus, discipline, and consistency you’ll watch your vision manifest.
