Today we’d like to introduce you to Talisha McCoy.
Hi Talisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started as an independent solo artist (singer/songwriter) . In West Georgia. a small country town where the minority do not have a welcoming platform/stage for artist to promote their music. When the stage doesn’t feel welcoming or they just wont allow you on a stage, you have to create your own. I said that to say I had one of the venues verbally tell me “My music wasn’t welcomed there ,they didn’t think their crowd would take to well to it( remind you not only am I a neo soul but also a country , pop, gospel singer songwriter .Weekend after weekend for yrs , I’d rotate local bars doing karaoke night, and in the same breath become a repetitive face in the building. Long story short It got my foot in the doors, and established good report with owners, management etc. All I knew was I needed to break this cycle just enough for me to get my foot over the chains. My whole point and purpose was to illustrate a visual of unity and fair opportunity, I slowly teamed up with a band ,the more we network the more we were turned away. Sometimes it ain’t what you know ,but who you know, One of my closest high school friends was in management she knew me , my family, what we stood for , and she gave my first stage in a town that had/has nothing to offer the minority . Long story short. The moment I started writing and singing my own music and needing to put a face behind my music and really market and promote it , The more I had to make trips back and forth to Atl week after week performing for free. Didn’t matter I love the stage and there’s a calling /purpose one that I couldn’t see. I didn’t know the why’s and where’s. I just knew I was in place. After about 5yrs of doing this, the last 2-3 yrs I’ve been able to collaborate genres on 5-7 different platforms in that area and watching people record , line dance, sing , play , hug , and smile and just live in the moment, said to me We can “Get along”. I need more of these shows. Since then ,doors have opened and I’ve been doing the shows consistently and Effortlessly. Artist , venues , sound etc. have all just literally fallen in my lap. Not just anyone but the best of the best . When one vine breaks another vine is in place to replace. Falling in love with what I do was out of my control standing in the gap to bridge the gap was one of my many missions . So today I stand before you as a Host, promoter, singer/Songwriter, Director, Event planner, Booking, and the list goes on.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No . Going through the trial and error stage. Learning the Do’s and Don’t s. Being cheated, used, etc . Knowingly yet still there’s purpose on this thing ,so I just couldn’t stop. The money and time invested with no help , physically, emotionally, financially. Still waking up everyday to make it happen-watch it happen No . Matter . What! Was only a part of the struggle
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an independent artist. Singer- songwriter, producer, Host, actress , Director, promoter. The list goes on, but I create platform and paid gigs for upcoming independent artists. I create one big show using live band and or Dj plus 5-6 artist . I’m known for my songwriting skills , live Nights & Epic encounters events, Im most proud of the growth & the show. The only thing that sets me apart is my sacrifice commitment , Building this thing from the ground with no foundation other than building on faith.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If you’ll walk out on faith and trust the process, keep your eyes on the man that promise to give you your hearts desires. He won’t let you sink . If it’s what you’re suppose to be doing,”your purpose.” If God is in it you’re gonna win it. More of him and less of you. If you’ll plant the seed. He will give the increase. Just nourish and nurture the seeds he gives you. Always put everything in black and white, and your biggest support won’t always come from your back door (your hometown) stay focused
