Meet Tal’Meisha “Meisha” Frontis of Heysimplymei in Charlotte

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tal’Meisha “Meisha” Frontis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Oh man! – – You know what.. it’s crazy because this question gets me every time I do an interview. Ain’t (listen I’m a little loud and country) it crazy how you can know your entire life story then stumble when asked about it? I guess I’ll keep it short, sweet, and simple.

I was never handed a silver spoon. My mother raised four kids on her own and in that, struggled to make ends meet. I don’t know what it was, but ever since I can remember, I just knew that I would be more and have more than what I saw around me. Even after becoming a teenage mom, which pushed me even harder, I was always determined. Knowledge was going to be my way out.

I remember being 18 years old with a two-month-old thinking to myself, “GIRL how are you really about to do college?” I worked two jobs. I pawned stuff sometimes. Shoot even donated plasma to have money and make ends meet. I never let it show. I promise none of my college friends probably knew the half because I was determined to be seen for my mind. I never wanted pity. I can’t even believe I was able to do things during my undergraduate school career like start my own mentoring organizations (D.I.V.A.S.), join only the BEST sorority there is (Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.), make the Dean’s list, and so much more all while being a mom.

Fast forward today, I am in graduate school with my hands in many different pots. By day, I am an international Training and Development Coordinator. I just recently came back from the Philippines – – just things I never imagined I’d be doing as a first-generation college student and teen mom. Beyond my professional life, I like to consider myself a millennial mom and social influencer. I have my own blog which you can find @ heysimplymei.com, but I have also established a social media presence that I share with my SimplyMei family. In that, I have built a community for other moms. I host MomMei Monday calls every first Monday of the month, facilitate MomMei events and more. Thing is, I’m still a person behind being a mom hence SimplyMei. In that, I keep it real and just say what’s on my mind. Yes, SimplyMei is a play on my name “MEIsha”, but it is also representative of the epiphany I had one day – – Yes, I have a story but don’t we all? I’d rather simply be Mei and embrace who I am. I encourage others, moms or not, to be themselves through my own transparency.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth?! Heck no. Do you want the list or..? LOL No but seriously. I think being a mom with dreams just makes things so much more convoluted for me. I am constantly being pulled in many directions. I want to be present with my child, but my child also has a financial need so guess what? – – this Mommy has to work. I also have crazy dreams, but guess what? – – Mommy is in graduate school. I’m still young and want to see my friends, but guess what? – – Mommy still has to be mommy, daughter, sister, and so much more too! It’s crazy sometimes I don’t know if I am coming or going. Balance is a daily opportunity for me. It’s fair to say that has been my greatest struggle, but am I going to stop? – – Never.

Heysimplymei – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Oh man. I have my hands in so many pots. I am a blogger, offer professional writing services, public speakers, and more. However, the “SimplyMei” brand in its entirety is what I am most proud of because it encompasses the diversity of things I offer and represents how multifaceted I am. Being a young mother is my story, but you don’t have to be a young mother to follow my social media handles, read my blogs, or attend my events. I think that’s what sets me apart from others. I’m not rigid. I know many people preach having a “target audience” and yes, my audience is for those with stories, flaws, and imperfections that still have a dream. However, there’s not “one specific” type of person that fits this model. White, black, blue, girl, boy, parent, child, and all that in between – – there are so many people that have tests but are determined to turn it into a testimony. Those are my people!

I can say that I am proud of how much my platform has especially uplifted other moms. The amount of moms that reach out and are thankful for our calls, meetups, and so forth is overwhelming. They are the reason I keep going on days when I don’t always feel like it. My entire SimplyMei family is amazing.

I specialize in:
– public speaking
– writing
– social media influencing
– training and development

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I know it sounds cliché but my proudest moment wasn’t my greatest achievement, most successful event, or anything of that nature. My proudest moment was truly the day I decided to make my website and corresponding social media pages. It’s not because I was finally “out there”, but more because of the responses. Sometimes you don’t know how much people need what you have. I’ve been able to both inspire and be inspired. I can’t wait to see where this journey leads me.
