Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, things were not always easy. Although I had great parents that gave me all the opportunity in the world to be better, there was always the need to satisfy my peers and fit in. I have always been the smart rebel. I quickly learned that I had to make my own way and an example to my children after having my 1st son.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about My Time Magazine – what should we know?
I am known as the girl that does the most. My passion is event planning & management. It all started for me in 2006 with one client in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. She always pushed me to start my own business and step out of corporate America. Sherry was a great client and still to this day in 2019, is a VIP client of mine. I continued to master my craft of organizing events, building my clientele, and soon had to move to Georgia for family reasons and start all over.

In 2008, I moved to Georgia and found myself starting from scratch. I didn’t know anyone here but knew I had to quickly figure out how to make my money. While thinking of my next move, I landed a great opportunity with the Bassell Lab at Emory University. God had truly blessed me with a super amazing boss, Dr. Gary Bassell.

I began networking in Atlanta and started coordinating events as the Diva’s of Dade County. We grew and made a big impact, and I later branched off on my own and continued to grow my network.

In 2012, I started Denim n Desserts, a networking fashion show that was supposed to showcase local talent, small businesses and my favorite, “desserts”. Never did I imagine that I would be getting ready for the 7th annual show (which sells out every year) in 2019, and I would meet some amazing people while doing it. We have our 7th Annual Denim n Desserts coming up April 29, 2019, and tickets are on sale now. At the same time, I still plan and organize events for other clients and maintain a great client base.

In 2017, I had the crazy idea to start a magazine, I mentioned it to a few people and they was like, “No way”… but of course, I started it anyway. My Time Magazine is all about the celebrity in you. There are so many amazing people in the community that do super dope things, and no one gets to see it. My magazine, like yours, is there to show the world what they have to offer and tell their story.

In this same year, my partner Marcus Allen and I started A & R Express, LLC. A small minority-owned trucking company that hauls household goods and dry freight. We have worked so hard to build this company and at the same time, show others how to start their journey as well.

God has been so good to me, that in August of 2018, I was able to leave corporate America to step out and continue my entrepreneurship journey full-time. It has been amazing. I learn and grow every day, and I can only hope that I am encouraging my kids and my other single moms daily.

I do think sometimes that I am losing my mind with all these businesses, but pray I leave an impact on Atlanta, my children, and others struggling to take care of their families and encourage them to go for it if they want more. I am proud to look back at where I came from and where I am today; and yet, I still have so much more to offer. I look forward to leaving my kids and my future grandkids a business they can continue and something they know their mother worked so hard to obtain.

Any shout-outs? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
So this section is gonna get me in trouble… but here goes. My mom, Anna Whigham is my biggest supporter. She has been by my side even when she didn’t want to be. My bestie-sister-cousin, Dr. Ebony Nicole Dunn is by far my #1 fan. If I told her I was going to the moon, she would start the campaign. She is amazing, truthful and always supports every single thing I do. My business partner with A & R Express, LLC, Marcus Allen, is surprisingly turning out to be an awesome guy. He supports and pushes me to be great and together we are building a successful trucking business. I have entrepreneur friends like Lakeshia Dixion and Naeemah Jade who push me and encourage me every day. I have learned that I can have three or four friends and they make more of an impact as 3000 associates. Even though this is a small circle, these individuals are a huge part of my success, as they are always here to encourage and support me in everything that I do; even the things I never thought I would be doing.
