Meet Terrell Dinkins of One Bucket Nation in Lake Spivey and Jonesboro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrell Dinkins.

Terrell, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I believe we all have a divine purpose on this earth. When you do what you love, your purpose finds you! I am a native of Atlanta, but I grew up in Decatur, Georgia. I attended Georgia Southern University, majoring in finance, and minoring in banking. After college, I worked as an operations manager and loan officer for Wachovia Bank, now Wells Fargo. But after three and a half years at the bank, I shift gears entirely and landed a job with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals as a drug representative. I stayed at Pfizer for 16 years, but after a company downsizing, I took a severance package and decided to go back to my roots of finance. I’ve always loved helping people manage their personal finances. Part of the company’s severance package included resources to change careers. I took advantage of the resources, got my securities licenses, and started a new career as a financial advisor with a firm in Buckhead. As an advisor, I primarily focused on wealth-building strategies for women. While working at the financial planning firm, I caught the writer’s bug and wrote my first book in 2015 titled, “One Bucket at a Time: A Woman’s Guide to Creating Wealth.”

In 2016, I took a leap of faith and opened my financial planning firm, working mainly with women and small business owners. When you are working for yourself, I guess you get an opportunity to find your voice and your purpose. One of the things that nag me is the huge wealth gap we have in this country. A contributing factor to the wealth gap is poor credit. When you have poor credit, you pay more for everything you finance. Those who don’t know the secrets of raising their credit score pay the highest price. Seeing all of the credit scammers compelled me to write my second book, titled, “Secrets of The 800+ Club: How To Raise Your Credit Score, Maintain Good Credit, And Live The Life Of Unicorns. My new book will go on sale in October 2020 and will be available on my website, OneBucketNation.com, and other booksellers.

I’m where I’m supposed to be because I’m doing what I love, changing the financial impact of a life!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t always think you have to struggle or have a crooked path to learn lessons in life. Have I had setbacks? Yes, but I wouldn’t call them struggles. I am one of those people who do their homework before leaping, never having any regrets. I think because I do my homework, the road has been less winding. After graduating from college, I never imagined my life as it is today. I thought I would climb the corporate ladder of somebody’s firm. Now, I’m a two-time author, I run my own firm, and have been self-employed for more than a decade. I didn’t see this life coming! One of the biggest challenges I had in the beginning as a business owner was feeling comfortable with my worth and realizing that every breathing body could not be my customer. Feeling comfortable with my worth and my niche took some adjusting.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on, and most proud of.
I have two companies. One Bucket Nation is my company that was set up for book sales and speaking engagements. Through this company, I am able to lend my voice to personal finance topics. I have a more visible presence on social media with One Bucket Nation and would like to consider myself a go-to person on personal finance topics. I am also the president and founder of OBN Wealth Advisors, a Registered Investment Advisor firm. Through this firm, I help clients create their financial road map, navigating their finances now and in the future. I also manage money.

I am very proud that I have been able to distribute two books through One Bucket Nation, on subject matters that are needed in our country, especially now! The wealth gap is widening. For my financial planning firm, I am proud that I exist. Unfortunately, there are not many financial planning firms ran by minority women. My firm is one of faith. What sets it apart from other firms is we are not afraid of our niche. The firm primarily focuses on wealth-building strategies for women and not apologetic about it.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Oh, the proudest moment of my career has been the courage to say goodbye to corporate America. I have stood on my own for over a decade and have not missed a beat (or a meal). I never saw myself here. Doors kept opening for me, almost guiding me to my current place in life.
