Meet Tess Amick of Blissful Buddha Pet Services in Savannah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tess Amick.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been a huge animal lover and my journey as an animal caretaker started at a young age. I brought home strays to become family pets, helped my mother care for orphaned birds and squirrels, and was the go-to pet sitter for my neighborhood as a child. In my adolescence, I volunteered at a local veterinary clinic and when I graduated high school I began college as a pre-veterinary student and worked as a veterinary technician in animal hospitals for several years. I decided against pursuing a career as a veterinarian and instead became involved in rescuing abandoned, abused, and neglected pets.

Throughout all my teenage and adult years, I continued to be a pet sitter for family, friends, and neighbors. I coined our business name and in 2012 decided to try to make a career out of my passion. I was very lucky and my business took off and it wasn’t long before I began hiring a staff to help me meet demand. Truly, everything in my life led me to build my business and caring for animals professionally. I feel very lucky.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Overall, it’s actually been a very smooth road. I grew with my business and learned as I went to manage the next level of growth. We have done very little marketing and are blessed to continue to experience steady growth mainly from referrals from existing clients, local veterinarians, rescues, and others in the pet world.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Blissful Buddha Pet Services – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a pet service company and we offer in-home pet care, primarily pet sitting and dog walking (but we also offer pet taxi service, basic grooming, pet supply errands, dog yoga classes, dog massage and acupressure, and more). We work really hard to give our clients total peace of mind and a stress-free experience when it comes to their pets’ care while they’re on vacation or at work. We love their fur babies and focus on their physical, emotional, and medical needs on each of our visits. We take dogs for walks, runs, and even hiking trips and have backyard playtime play dates and snuggle sessions. Our staff is mainly composed of vet techs and animal rescue volunteers and we specialize in working with animals with medical and behavioral needs. We are well versed in making shy or skittish pets feel comfortable. Our goal is to make sure every pet in our care is happy, healthy, and feeling loved.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to keep going with the flow and seeing where organic growth takes us! It’s been an exciting and fulfilling journey so far. I would love to expand our service area and maybe one day open a facility to offer daycare, boarding, grooming, and training, but for now, I truly am grateful for where we are and how far we’ve come in a relatively short period of time.
