Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany McLaurin.
Tiffany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I came up with the idea for The Organized Wife a few months after I got married. The husband and I had just moved to Atlanta and we were starting from scratch. He had a new job and I was looking for one.
Here I was in a new town, far away from my friends and family, and bored out of my mind. After I read the backlog of books I had on my wish list and caught up on all my television shows, I found I needed a new outlet. This is when I decided to start the blog. It has been more than five years since I started the blog. My life has changed quite a bit during that time and I am glad I had the blog to document it all along the way!
Has it been a smooth road?
If you read any of my older blog posts, you will quickly realize how far my blogging skill set has come. As an individual blogger, you are a writer, a marketing guru, photographer, project manager, website designer, and a copy editor. You have to wear all the hats because the website doesn’t necessarily make money at the beginning.
I quickly learned to get a great camera because my cellphone camera wasn’t cutting it. I also needed to learn photoshop and website design. Every time I published a new blog post, I got better at all the behind the scenes work. The other thing I had to develop was my voice. When you are starting out, it is easy to copy what others are doing. If it works for them, it will work for you, right? For me, I found it difficult to keep up with being someone else. My copy didn’t feel authentic and I didn’t feel proud about what I was publishing. It took a while for me to be comfortable with who I am and figure out what I wanted my message to be.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Organized Wife – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The Organized Wife is a blog about my struggles with organizing, cleaning, making my house a home, and the day-to-day struggles of being someone’s wife. I write to inspire others and to provide strength to those experiencing the same issues.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What do I like least about my city? Sandy Springs, where I actually live and work, is a cute little suburb of Atlanta. Once you go south to the city, especially the midtown area, you have to start paying to park. You will laugh, but when we make plans to go toward the city, my decision to go is typically predicated on whether or not parking is free.
What do I like best about Atlanta? There is so much to do! This year has been an off-year, obviously. In normal years, there is some type of festival or event going on somewhere in the city. I really love the variety of things to entertain yourself with other than going to eat or to see a movie. I think that is what makes a living here so special.
