Meet Toni McCormick of Two Girls Tanning and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toni McCormick.

Hi Toni, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My friend, Kim Mullinax, and I were out shopping one day and I said I wanted to open a tanning salon. She asked if I was serious and I told her yes. She looked at me and said,” Let’s do it!” We continued shopping and started buying beach themed items. Once we finished I told her we had to open a tanning salon because I spent $300 on beach themed decor. We did our research, built our business plan, found a location and set things into motion. Not only do we offer tanning we also have red light therapy, a Cocoon fitness pod and leg compression therapy. We just celebrated our 4th year in business. Our first year open we won Best of Rome. In 2024 and 2025 we won Best of Georgia. Two Girls Tanning and Wellness is a locally owned and operated business. We believe with all our hearts that what makes us so great is our people. They aren’t just numbers to us. Most are like family because they have been with us from the beginning. We know their families and their stories.. Others have become friends. We are very welcoming and friendly. I like to say that we never meet a stranger. So if you are in Rome, Georgia come check us out.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening a business was very scary. Neither of us had any experience as a business owner. To say that the first couple of years was a huge learning curve is an understatement. We learned the hard way that we needed to add money to the budget for unexpected surprises. All of the electrical had to be redone. New plumbing had to be installed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are just two women that grew up here. This is where our roots are. We built our business to be relaxing and welcoming. Our people can come in and have a whole spa day with us and they love it! The Cocoon Fitness Pod is a dry heat sauna. It has 5 levels of heat and 5 levels of massage. It also has salt therapy that starts when you turn it on. The Cocoon helps with weight management, aches and pains, detoxes the body and improves circulation. Our Red Light Therapy booth helps to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, etc. It promotes the production of collagen and reduces the appearance of cellulite. The Leg Compression Therapy improves circulation in the legs and feet. This helps to reduce swelling and relieves aches and pains. It also helps with Restless Leg Syndrome.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Kim’s parents and my father gave us loans to help with the start up. They were there through it all. My father is a regular at the salon and all of our regulars know him. He’s there so much that if he doesn’t come in for a week or so people start asking to make sure he’s ok.
