Meet Trailblazer Ashleigh Guice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Guice.

Ashleigh, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In July of 2014, I hit bottom. I had just gotten laid off from a job I hated but I needed that job to pay bills. I had always been creative but I had cut off all of my creative outlets. I stopped drawing, modeling, and dancing and followed the advice of the people around me that said my creativity was a hobby that could never be a career. In the midst of all this misery, I got dumped for the third time in a year. At that moment, I knew the only place I could go was up. Instead of sulking in my misery, I began to write. I wrote about my break up and the steps I was taking to get better. Once I was done, I sent it to my friends to see what they thought. They loved it, so I decided I would take writing seriously and publish this as a book. Before the book, I wanted to launch a blog so I had an audience to market the book too. I posted my first blog in November of 2014 and received great responses. I then posted a few more. When I realized people actually wanted to hear what I had to say, I invested money in a logo and a website which resulted in SingleWomanChronicles.com being launched in January of 2015. I became passionate about changing mindsets. I had always been the single friend and I felt bad about it. Instead of feeling bad, I wanted to encourage women to embrace their single season as a beautiful choice rather than a miserable circumstance. I took my passion further by taking the words I wrote in my journal in 2014 and publishing my first book in January of 2017 called How to X Your Ex: A Guide to Getting Past Unhealthy Relationships. I fell in love with writing books so I published my second book this past February which was my first fiction novel entitled Single Woman Chronicles: An Atlanta Love Story… Kinda. I have so much more I want to do but my soul mission will always be to change the mindsets of women everywhere.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a quite bumpy ride. I want to quit every other week, lol, but I know that means I’m doing something right. If you haven’t dedicated yourself to the level that it stresses you out to the point that you want to just give up, then you aren’t going hard enough. My advice is to stay connected to your why. Your why can’t be fame or money because you’ll give up. Your why must be something you’re passionate about, something that you would do for free. I am dedicated to motivating and inspiring women to be better. I have and will do it for free. That’s what keeps me going through this bumpy ride.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Single Woman Chronicles – what should we know?
I am known for always keeping it real and always going deeper than the surface. Although I am goofy, I try not to lead with that. I get that humor can get you further sometimes but humor isn’t enough for what I am trying to do. I am trying to heal people from the inside out so that means I have to dig deep and confront dark places. I do this by revealing my dark places in hopes that it will connect with the women I hope to heal.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I think finding a mentor is great but I think finding a support group is more important. As an author/blogger, we go through struggles not everyone can relate to. In times when it gets tough, we need a team of people to talk to so we can find relief. This is why it’s good to connect with the people around you doing what you’re doing so they can be your shoulder to cry on and your cheerleader. It helps when you get in those low moments and also when you have questions. You can gain a support group by going to free networking events on Eventbrite or attending events you see promoted on Facebook and Instagram.
