Meet Trailblazer Casey Burgamy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Burgamy.

Casey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
About four or five years ago, I was going through what can only be described as a pretty hardcore quarter-life crisis. I felt really lost and purposeless. I had spent a decade of my life in a passionless career as a hairstylist, and I knew there was something else out there for me. I prayed every day for God to show me my true path. I researched, read books, talked to people who were much smarter than me, consulted my pastor, and tried many many new things, to no avail.

Well, sort of… There was this nagging feeling I got every-time that I prayed that told me to start a YouTube channel. I did not want to start a YouTube channel. I fought that idea for nearly two years, arguing with God about how I must have heard him wrong. Despite all of my best efforts, I finally gave in and posted one video. I was hooked. I posted a new video every week for two more years and even managed to gain almost 5000 subscribers… but something was off. Being on camera was extremely stressful. Being an “influencer” was never what I wanted. Stressing about posting a video, just for the sake of posting… it was not ideal.

I thought to myself, “If God wants me to be a YouTuber, why doesn’t it feel right?”.

I just wanted to tell stories. I loved the art of film and how it moves people. I loved filming and editing. I knew I always loved weddings and thought perhaps I could tell other people’s stories and merge my two loves together. I then thought to myself, “You are no professional, you wouldn’t even know where to start”.

About the same time, I had that thought, an ad for a film-making course came across my news feed. I purchased that course and never looked back. I now know why God led me to start that channel, because it put me on the path to discovering my true love and passion, being a wedding film-maker.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with anything, there are ups and downs. I can’t pinpoint any huge obstacle that I have faced other than fear and self-doubt. That is the quickest way to halt your success. I have since tried to adopt the motto “Let fear be your road map, not your roadblock, ” Everything good that has ever come to me has always been just on the other side of my comfort zone. Whenever you choose to see uncertainty as an opportunity to grow, that’s where you really see what you are capable of.

Hey Hey Productions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My husband is the other half of this business, so I’m about to use ‘we” and “us” a-lot. We are not interested in creating generic or cookie-cutter films. We are also not interested in creating emotionless inauthentic “do it for the gram” kinda films.

Our goal is to become our couple’s friends. We want to learn all about them, what makes them unique and special, what their values are and what is important to them. This helps us create something truly one of a kind, something that captures the essence of their day and who they are as a couple.

Our style is one part documentary, one part creative whimsy, and two parts emotion. All put together, you have a recipe for something that truly stirs the soul, a recipe of people loving people in a real way. And that my friend is our freaking jam.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I choose to believe that the only barriers are the ones you place on yourself. Yes, there are things that are outside of our control sometimes, but I try and look at those as motivators to be the very best version of myself.

I’m not perfect at this, and I need daily reminders, but at the end of the day, you can only control yourself and the impact you make personally. Everyone is on their own journey and learning their lessons at different times. So for this reason, I try and remain patient with people who ultimately are like me, just trying to do their best.
